The bigger concern is whether they can learn enough about this seasons cars issues to create a competitive car next year. If they need to "Go Radical" again, the same type of issue could persist, which would be a jolly poor show.

Have to say no,because if they don't know what they've ****ed up this year what's to say they won't make the same mistakes for next.

Gary Anderson wrote a long-winded bit about McL recently, but the above would be a quick summary. :)

Make a completely different car, instead of an evolution of the previous years....like the rest of the field did. That's what they done wrong.

If they had evolved last years car, they may have started off quick, but they would have faded as the season progressed.

As it is, they started off slow, then faded as the season progressed.

so, erm, it looks like, erm, a bit of a lash up all round then!

If they continue with 2013, their best is maybe getting both into Q3 and lucking into podiums if its wet of high attrition.

But even then with poor qualifying, they're going to be near Grosjean so just getting through T1 is an achievement.

I have said before that the McLaren development prowess is largely driven by the teams performance in 2009. Prior to that, they have started with a car which was never that far off the pace, and have been nip and tuck with the other top teams.

In 2009, the only team really developing the car at any pace other than McLaren were Red Bull, and McLaren were able to beat them at the kind of circuits which require good low speed grip, plus the McLaren had KERS, the Red Bull did not.

none of the usual protagonists, Ferrari, Brawn and Renault really made any significant developments through the season, and allowed McLaren to get to the top, once they had established the reasons for their issues.

This season, the top 4 teams are all throwing the kitchen sink at the cars, hence McLaren gains (if any) are simply maintaining the gap, rather than allowing them to close it, if anything the gap is getting larger.

In short, work on understanding the car and the issues, in relation to fixing them next year. any parts which will fit both years can be brought forward for evaluation, but for goodness sake, do not sacrifice next years performance for a solitary win/podium this year, otherwise my somewhat fragile and jaded loyalty may be rent assunder.

I am thinking if Mclaren get it right next year they should be near the front . If not then I think Button will pack it in before the Honda venture

This is on the basis that Tim Goss is leading the team and not going to be poached in some way

If Sam Michael leads the design engineers team:shocked::o:rolleyes:

they should stop developing this year's car because they are going to be at a disadvantage in terms of finance against Red Bull, MErcedes and Ferrari to develop the car

Surely they cannot get it horribly wrong as this year
