Second United States GP - New Jersey

Why should America have 2 GP's? There are other countrys out there that at least deserve one, and I can think of few others that should have 2. Is F1 feeling guilty after the Indianapoilis fiasco? Or is it that they found out that having a race at Austin isn't the way to go?

We already have more tracks than the maximum allowed, what is going on? I really do hate this thing of "new track every year" thing, it is not only a waste of money, it's a waste of effort, it ruins the calendar, it ruins F1 to an extent, all of the "original" and great tracks get pushed out, I find it absurd!

Also, what's this craze over street circuits ever since 2008? Valencia, Singapore, Korea (half of it), Rome was meant to be one too. Street circuits is the exact opposite of what F1 needs.
F1 needs street circuits for variety. We don't want more soulless tracks in the middle of nowhere, so I think a maximum of 3 street circuits is good. So that's Monaco, a modified Singapore, and New York (drop Valencia). We still need traditional circuits like Spa, Silverstone and Monza, and f1 needs to move into huge potential markets like the USA. So we do need GP's like China, Russia, India, Malaysia and the USA. So (sorry for going a bit off topic) my calendar would be (based on inevitable future GP's):

1. Australia
2. South Africa
3. Malaysia
4. Abu Dhabi
5. Russia
6. Spain
7. Monaco
8. Canada
9. New Jersey
10. France
11. Britain
12. Germany
13. Hungary
14. Belgium
15. Italy
16. India
17. Singapore
18. Korea
19. China
20. Japan
21. Mexico
22. USA
23. Argentina
24. Brazil

For me, Argentina and Mexico a maybe, and with clever date working this could be a viable calendar (with a summer break) although there would be a lot of back-to-backs!

One race right now in USA is enough, if it's very successful why not bring in another one in a few years time? Texas race has not even taken place and yet they are planning for another race. I can see this backfiring...What's worse, is that whoever came up with this plan hasn't really thought about the current calendar with Russa coming in 2013 and Texas in 2012, taking up more space on the calendar, so how are you going to fit in the race in New Jersey?

I think 20 races a season should be the max. This years already going till the end of November.

And I agree with Sly, the US should not have 2 GP’s anytime soon considering the amount of other tracks trying to get a spot on the calendar, its not like we have a US WDC currently on the grid.

As long as it's a good track I really don't care where it is. We can have 20 races in Peru for all I care, as long as they're good.
I just hope it won't replace one of the better tracks, but replaces Valencia or something.

Unfortunately it will probably be a bad track replacing a better one!

I'm kinda iffy with the idea but the track looks terrible. One real overtaking spot a bunch of characterless 90s and some flat out kinks. What's up with Bernie making all these street circuits by water! It's not necessary!

It's all about the value of the American market...

I just hope one of the Spanish tracks gets replaced, preferably Valencia. If not that then it will likely be Bahrain, Melbourne, Korea or even Spa. God forbid Spa will leave the calendar...

The USA is a massive place - if anywhere should have two Grands Prix it's America.

It's not that the likes of France, Belgium and Japan don't deserve at least one GP - but money talks.

I reckon they've thought it through pretty well actually, from a commercial point of view. Every time you add a new track, it puts pressure on all the others to maintain (or even increase) their fee and improve their facilities in order to not be the one that cops it. Which of course achieve's Mr Ecclestone's main aim of pocket-filling.

And while I dislike the ditching of good old tracks as much as you do, I do quite enjoy unknowns of new races at new tracks.

The USA may have a lot of money and it may be a large country but that doesn't mean that it should have 2 races. Nowhere should in my opinion, especially not America if it doesn't even have one F1 driver...

It could also be argued that the Japanese/Chinese/German market is just as important as America aswell.

Why should America have 2 GP's?

Well apart from the huge market that America is that F1 has constantly been trying to crack you always have to look at size and population. The U.S is twice the size of the continent of Europe - no clue on population but size but anyways. Europe has 8 Grand Prix's whislt currently the North American Continent has 1 race. South America only has 1 race too. I Bet if you totaled up the number of F1 fans on those 2 continents it would at least equal the number in Europe. So how is it fair to them that they get 2 Grand Prix a year and lets face it if your and F1 fan in Mexico you're not going to be abel to travel to either.

In Europe as an F1 fan you have it fairly easy. Oh bugger I missed the German Grand Prix - oh well I'll just drive over the border to Belgium. If you're an F1 fan in the America's. Oh bugger I missed the Candian Grand Prix I'll just travel half way round the world to Brazil. Not gonna work is it?

I see your point about nations or having one etc etc but that only works if all nations are of an equal size and population.

To be honest I'd much rather see races popping up in North America and South America then I would in Asia as the fan base is far larger.

F1 is already well-established in those three countries. Having two races in the US is probably Bernie's way of firstly making more money and secondly trying to get a foothold on the US market quickly rather than just building it up with one GP each year and therefore making more money in the long run. He's probably also using the New York race as backup for the Texas track in case it's not up to Tilke's exceptional standard...

"Build it and they will come."

A recipe for disaster.

No this is a recipe for disastor

"take 24 F1 cars
take 1 F1 wary country
add one unprepared tyre manufacturer
take away 18 F1 cars

Roast in a slow procesion throwing in the occasional beer can until atmosphere is boiling rage

Sit back and wait until whole nation is dissilusioned with the sport."

After 05 F1 should be moving heaven and earth to be getting the American market back. Can you imagine the backlash if that had happened at the British Grand Prix?

Ras, that is part of the problem that Vortex posted and then led to my post.

The Americans were not flocking to Indianapolis before 2005, what happened then made a bad situation worse.
