Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

Every time I click on this thread I wonder if we are going to have to start an obituary thread.

I don't wish him dead, just dead to the world of F1. Am I awful or just realistic?

Ok I'm trying to do this as good as possible. If the translation sounds a bit weird, it is because the actual text is pretty much written in what I would describe as sloppy German, which is often used by tabloid newspapers (like BILD and Blick itself).

"Die Fans von Kubica bleiben ihrem Robert treu. An jeder Rennpiste sieht man Plakate. Doch um den am 6. Februar 2011 verunglückten Polen ist es still geworden. Warum redet er nicht? Ein Comeback wird fast ausgeschlossen. Leider."

Kubica's supporters stay loyal. You can see banners at every racetrack. But you didn't hear a lot from the guy, who crashed at February 6th 2011. Why doesn't he talk? A comeback is nearly being ruled out (it doesn't say who is actually ruling it out and why). It's a pity.

I wouldn't take this stuff too seriously, the rest of the news is about some actual news but also about Maldonados "hot" girlfriend and Bernie Ecclestones engagement ring...

Realistic,, Brogan and I have been saying since the extent of his injuries became apparent that you won't see him back in an F1 car, nowt posted since his accident has made me think otherwise which is a crying shame because he had awesome potential.

On the other side of it, he must think he's had 2 very close shaves, time to retire?

With plenty of other young guns out there I don't see him coming back. The suggestions of him replacing Massa were incomprehensible to me. Window's closed as far as I can see, what a shame.

No one.Kubica has no contract with Lotus so there is no obligation on Lotus to give him seat.
If he does indeed return to F1 (unlikely in my view) he may well struggle to find a seat anywhere.

I think should he actually be able to drive an F1 car then teams will at least give him a chance, if he's half as good as he used to be then he would be a decent fit for a team further down the grid, especially the 3 new ones.

Reading that article feels a bit depressing tbh. When you think about the precision levels needed to go grab the last few tenths at the wheel of an F1 car what hope does he have when a year-and-a-half after the crash they're still trying to get him to even turn a steering wheel to the left with having to take his hand off it? :disappointed:

Yup its sad. I now think it is really unlikely he will be back in F1.
I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like he is struggling to have a normal life, never mind get back in an F1 car.

Yes, without that crash he would either be sat in a Ferrari by now or at the wheel of of a very competitive Lotus. We will now never know what he would have have gone on to achieve...

He did at least win one race, which is more than many have but, like many divers, we will never know his full potential. Shame, maybe he'll turn up in DTM or another touring car series.

I still think we'll see him in an F1 car again at some point, it may not end with a race seat but I think his reputation is enough to tempt a few teams to see whether he still has what it takes once his injuries have healed as much as they can.

I think the above is something some of us have been saying for a long time, I suggest its far more likely he's back in some kind of Touring formula than F1. I really do believe that window has closed, sad as it is to say.

soccerman17 I don't see it, it's not as if there aren't other undamaged and quick drivers out there queuing up to be in F1. His most recent op was to resolve his ability to rotate his arm, a pretty fundamental life skill neverlone driving skill. IMO he'll never be the man he was and that's a huge shame, but there are others who've lost their lives in non-F1 motorsport - such as Jimmy Clark - so at the end of the day he should still consider humself lucky. Just trying to 'keep it real', as they say.
