Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

Kubica will apparently be taking part in a rally as early as this weekend.

While I am excited and grateful that he has recovered well enough to be back in racing, I am ambivalent about his returning to rallying so soon. I would have thought that he should start with a more sedate, bit more structured (safer) form.

I wish him well and continue to hope for a complete recovery.

It certainly shows he has balls of steel. Momentum seems to be gathering in his recovery now, I hope it goes well for him.

I have a sneaky feeling we'll see him driving an F1 car, or at least an F1 like car, before the start of next season. I think there's a lot of teams that would be willing to give him a day in an old car to see how he gets on. Worse case scenario is they get a load of media coverage, best case scenario is they end up with a fit and able Kubica in their car.

I hope all goes well for him...& he finds racing that he is able to compete in......he was great to watch...
Probably would have been with Fernando at Ferrari now...
Hope there's some of the rallying/interviews on Sky........

Kubica won the fairly minor rally, he entered this weekend.

I read though that they had to move the paddle to the left hand side, so he's obviously still having problems with his right arm and hand.

He still looks rather gaunt, but I'm overjoyed to see him back. Also very relieved that nothing untoward happened in the race. I still hope to see him back in an F1 car someday.

Here's the ESPN link - http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/88563.html

Great to see him back! He's clearly got no problems with pace if he won every single stage! :)

However, ESPN also reported that "The extent of Kubica's injuries were revealed further on the podium after the rally, with the use of his right arm severely limited during the celebrations." So it looks as though he will never return to F1 while his arm is not in full working order.

I can't remember what site it was on but I saw a video of the celebrations afterwards and it was obvious that he couldn't do much more than rest the champagne bottle on his bad hand, he didn't seem to be able to grip it at all.

It doesn't seem to be affecting his rally driving too much though! What a nutter!

That car looks pretty beat up though... I swear racing drivers have to have their brains rewired to remove fear before they get their racing license. Seriously, Kubica gets severed in half and the first thing he does is step in to a rally car again. The second thing he does is crash a rally car again. Mental.
