Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

I believe he suffered substantial nerve damage to his hand and arm and nerves do not grow back, well they could if all the bleeding hearts would get off the backs of scientist and stop protesting against stem cell research and let them do some good....

That just reminded me of a quote that ruined an otherwise good movie. I'm talking about when Kevin Costner (Elliot Ness) leads the troops in to raid Robert DeNiro's (Al Capone's) warehouse and says "Let's do some good" before discovering a shipment of umbrellas rather than the illegal liquor that they were expecting to find. Brian De Palma! What were you thinking?

The umbrella scene didn't add anything to the film just like protesting research that can only do good doesn't add anything to the human condition and could potentially have massive benefits, for people like Kubica and those in a far worse condition...

Regardless of the advances in modern medicine I simply cannot see Kubica coming back to F1 AND being competitive. His injuries have been very severe and I can't think of a single driver who has made a competitive comeback in a similar situation. Add to that he has missed 2 seasons now and, very likely, will miss a 3rd so will be so far behind his peer group, and further behind the new pool of talent coming through, he simply wouldn't be able to cut it.

Great shame, great talent but sometimes you just have to admit that it ain't gonna happen. I reckon he would be do a better job in DTM than DC currently does though.

After Lewis unlapped himself from Seb on Sunday, I was trying to think of some other unlapping scenarios, and the one that stuck out most in my mind was courtesy of Bobby Kubica.

Closing laps of Brazil 2008. Hamilton just trying to retain position, Kubica slips underneath him, Lewis is put off line and who but Sebastian Vettel sneaks through to nick the place that Hamilton desperately needed.

If it weren't for Toyota strategy and a bit of precipitation, that move would have lived on forever.

Bobby Kubica at a Pirelli rally test in Italy, source wasn't too sure if it was a rally test! Looking better though

I really do miss RK. I truly expected him to become WDC someday.
I am extremely happy to see that he has improved so much and stands a great chance of living what we would call a normal life. I think that is the best that could be expected, all things considered.
I can't help thinking about how formidible a Kimi and (unimpaired) RK teaming in the Lotus would be, though.

Fernando Alonso has admitted that it's still difficult to say whether Robert Kubica will be able to return to competitive racing.
The Pole - still rated as one of motor-racing's finest protagonists - has been out of action since February 2011 when he suffered a horrendous accident whilst rallying.
Since then, Kubica has undergone countless operations to repair the damage inflicted, with the full extent of his recovery surrounded by uncertainty. Although recent reports indicated that Kubica has tested in a race simulator, Alonso, a close friend of the former BMW and Renault driver, has admitted that Kubica's comeback still cannot be guaranteed.
"It's very hard to say whether Robert will return to 100 per cent fitness and be able to race again in Formula 1," Fernando told September's edition of F1 Racing Magazine.
"Now and again we speak and I know how much it hurts him to be so far away from what has always been his world. He has to keep calm and think first and foremost about recovering total functionality of his body, then he can think again about racing."

According to Autosport, RK test drove a WRC Ford last month.
Good news, as it may indicate that his recovery is further along than I had hoped (or feared)

Kubica tested Ford in France with Latvalla and Solberg

Very interesting information from France: Robert Kubica tested a Ford rally car on a Circuit des Ecuyers. He wasn`t sure before whether he will be able to do it, but he done it well. In this test participated also Petter Solber and Jari Matti Latvala.

"Solberg, Latvalla and mysterious driver, who doesn`t want to give more publicity to his collaboration, drove on Circuit des Ecuyers. This driver has some experience on asphalt - he came at his own expense and worked great. During our first contact he told me that he is not sure if he will be physically able to drive but he did good job" - said Ford technical director, Christian Loriaux.

The issue now seems to be having the dexterity to fiddle with all the buttons, switches etc. on the steering wheel more than being able to drive the car.
