Nico Rosberg

Nico Erik Rosberg, son of Keijo "Keke" Erik Rosberg, is about to have his 100th Grand Prix meeting this weekend in Hungary.

I was about to write my "best wishes" to him in 'his' thread...but I couldn't find one...so, I figured I might as well start it off.

What is very interesting is that his father, Keke, took part in 114 Grand Prix races in his entire Formula One career, winning 5 of them - all for Williams from 1982 to 1985 - as well as a World Championship.

It's interesting in that Nico is approaching that number quickly and he's already about to finish off his 6th season in a few months...but without a win to his name...and no win in sight given the current pecking order of the cars.

Some say Nico is a great talent...while others say he hasn't fared well against quality teammates in their prime, so it's hard to judge. Mark Webber is, seemingly, his only reasonable benchmark and that was way back in his rookie season in a car that was one of the worst ones ever constructed by Williams.

What are people's thoughts on Nico Rosberg?

Regardless, Godspeed to Nico on the occassion of his 100th Grand Prix this weekend! :)

Titch KekeTheKing is referring to me as Putin due to my Russian style username and in a 'clever' attempt to try and suggest I'm some sort of dictator. Although I'm sure he doesn't't mean it.

As for your list of drivers it doesn't't include multiple world champions Jackie Stewart and Nikki Lauda. Doesn't include any world champions actually.

KekeTheKing I'm kind of tired of having this argument with you. I only continue because you seem to want to suggest anyone who doesn't hold your view is some sort of idiot and I'm not very good at sitting back and letting someone manipulate facts by picking and choosing which sources they use in order to present something.

I respect your view. I just hope that next time you see a driver (Lewis Hamilton for instance) try and defend a position when he's being closed on down a straight under DRS you put the same amount of resources into calling them dangerous and dirty as you have this time round.

I think Merc would be silly to put all their eggs in Wherlein's basket just yet. He's looked pretty good on occasions butchers's not exactly ripping Hyranto in quali. Personally I think Merc have a better youngster in the wings in Esteban Ocon. However picking a Frenchmen over a German might not be in Merc's business strategy.

Rosberg is a German but kind of a mock German. I've always thought that, after all that's gone on between him and Lewis over the last few years, that Rosberg's days at Merc would not last two much longer. Probably best for both parties as long as he finds somewhere to go. This season is prob best time for him to move on as with the rule shake up coming he might land on his feet.

I don't think Merc intend to put all their eggs in the Wherlein basket just yet, but they want their options open. They will need a younger fast driver, be it Wherlein or Ocon, so I guess they're just being pragmatic. Tying into Nico for three more years wouldn't be the wisest choice. Why would they do that?

I agree about Rosberg being the mock German. He' s German when it suits, Monacanese (?) at Monaco and even claims the British GPas a home race because Mercedes are based round the corner. But I don't think Merc would base their driver choice on nationality, they'll want the fastest drivers.
Considering some of the events of the last few years, I think Merc have managed the situation between the drivers pretty well.

But at the end of the day Merc hold all the cards and will probably get what they want.

I think Nico can be considered lucky to have finished 4th. Having your wing slide under your car at full speed is fraught with trouble but he got away with it.
