The second table is a condensed version of the first table with overall totals and averages per season.

Its starting to become apparent that most champions don't win many races in the late-mid-season. Which I feel is very strange indeed.

Raikkonen apart, it has to be a case of going conservative (both in set ups and in driving) to defend a lead, I would have thought. No matter what the drivers and teams say about 'still going for it', there's more pressure in defending a lead (especially one that is shortening race by race) than chasing when you effectively have nothing to lose.

More graphs on this pointless statistics post!

Here is the Champions' progression since 1994.

The colours actually represent the positions in this occassion!

Love the fact that 1982 and Keke Rosberg is the lowest % of wins and still picked up the championship! I wonder if this is the resentment that Bernie has (Williams vrs Braham) had all those years in him insisting on having the medal championship?

He'd have been buggered that year as well as Pironi, Watson, Prost, Lauda & Arnoux all had 2 race wins in 82.

Maybe it's not so strange. Maybe by then they focus more on getting to the finish with a good amount of points instead of winning the race. Which may lead to a slightly different setup.
