Current Lewis Hamilton

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

Perhaps it's the presentation by the Journo, we all know they can make a mountain out of a molehill if they want. Let's see how things go this weekend and if Mark "wandering wheels" Webber tries the same tactic as last year on Hammy. One thing that does always surprise me is why McLaren don't get more involved. It's not really for the driver to make a complaint to the stewards it's for the team and the driver can then refuse to comment as it's a team matter. If Schumie had done the same to Jenson would MW have sat back and taken it...

Oh no, what have I done? Don those tin foil hats boys it's time for the "Jenson and Martin's Love In" discussion...

I presume he would have done the same thing he did for Lewis. McLaren notified Charlie that there were some rather extraordinary lines being used by Schumacher, and at that point it was out of their hands.

Whiting's response was to have the stewards look at a super-slo-mo replay of the Massa-Trulli incident from Lap 5.

I don't fault Whitmarsh/McLaren here. The failure was with the FIA.

Oh, and I guess it's no surprise that Lewis' "non-comment" gets dissected while Seb's personal complaint to the stewards gets swept under the rug.

So, in other words, yes I was pissed off, kept my gob shut but now I've let it run away with me again and you all know the truth.

To quote Eric Morecombe "The boys a fool"...

Firstly there is a difference between saying something right after the race when the topic was a very hot subject and 2 weeks later when its mostly diffused.

Also anyone who couldn't work out that Lewis was blocked by MS, was not happy about it, and chose not to react will not be able to now suddenly work it out because of his new comments

When Reubens was almost painted into the wall last year by the same MS, and spent weeks weeping about it no one called him a fool, every journo would ask about it afterwards for a while, when later Lewis actually comments on it he is a fool?

 Maybe I am just wearing my invisible tin foil hat as I just don't get it

I've got the same problem as Lewis. I can't keep my mouth shut when I feel there is an injustice and if I feel I've been muted it will come out sooner or later anyway. These things stew inside, and someone like Lewis has to be allowed to vent. He doesn't just want to be the best, he wants to be known as the best. Any mistruth that he feels is a personal injustice will rattle him to the core and he won't shake it until he has set the record straight. He is a potent mix of ego, talent, passion, motivation and desire and that's what makes him the driver we all love and hate. I follow him mostly because I can relate to this attitude.

Lewis will learn sooner or later the best way to fight his battles. It won't be through coaching that he learns this, it will be through trial and error and self-learning. He will succeed though. He has the attitude for success but he needs to be allowed to be himself and not be stifled. It is in this respect that McLaren are failing with him.

It's possibly a shame that his father was pushed out of the picture as I am sure he has experience in dealing with the type of issues confronting Lewis as he faces the F1 establishment, it's fans and media,

at least he has his team boss looking out for him instead

Nah. You can't hang off the apron strings forever. It's only natural he would want to stand on his own two feet and it's only natural he should fall a few times as he tries to find them. It'll all work out for the best. Lewis is too good not to win another championship. He is just trying to find a new independent self and grow into it. He's been very dependent throughout his upbringing and is only now learning to become a man.

Someone told me once that the choices that you make today effect all of the choices available to you tomorrow. Wise words, which I will never forget. Lewis just needs to make sure he makes the right choices and that he is true to himself when he makes them.

Good post Ninja

Lewis is not on a level playing field though, and will need to grow in more ways than the others, he has to overcome obstacles that are not normal

His real asset is his talent and the support of sports fans who can remain objective in the face of media and establishment predjudice

I like his apparent reaction, ride the punches, hold back and wait till things change, and if they don't change collect the money and enjoy life

It is a level playing field in that if anyone else were Lewis Hamilton, they would be getting the same treatment. All of the drivers have thier flaws and thier merits. The thing that makes Lewis so difficult for everyone is that his flaws and merits are the same thing.

Lewis is not at the cross roads of his career yet but he has to decide that if he can't achieve his goals at MClaren then he has to move elsewhere and give up the idea of the sportscar he was promised if he won 3 world titles with Mclaren

There is a right way and a wrong way of parting with the team and its never easy

If he says he thanks MClaren for all the years but is looking forward to a new challenge etc then fair enough

If he starts blasting the team and saying they let him down like Montoya and Alonso did then it never looks good if things do not turn well - the grass is not greener on the other side comes to mind

Its a decision he has to make for myself something he has not had for his career because of his dad and Mclaren have looked after him although maybe too well without thinking about the realisation of what happens when things aren;t going well

My concern for Lewis he has signed up with Simon Fuller who will help market him no doubt but seems to have bought on this somewhat spoilt attitude in LEwis and he loses focus on F1 and is twirled by all the potential money he could make like David Beckham outside his sport

I mean that Lewis is not treated like the others by the stewards

When MS is finally in a situation where he is not penalised or censored for breaking the rules then I conclude that the other driver is not on a level playing field with the rest

Do you want me to draw pictures and diagrams for you?

Its been like that with Schumacher for the previous 15 years he was in F1 when it comes to penalising him considering the number of accidents he's been involved in since his return as well
