Indy 500 gets "push to pass" button

Staff Member
For the first time ever, cars competing in the Indy 500 will have a push to pass button.

Drivers will be permitted to use it 15 times during the race and each press will give them additional horsepower for 18 seconds. There is a mininum time limit of 10 seconds between presses.

Of course push to pass has been used at previous IndyCar races after being introduced last season but this is the first time it will have been used in an Indy 500 race.

It should be interesting to see how it affects the drafting capabilities and whether drivers working in tandem can pull away from the pack.
