Felipe Massa

Brilliant driver on his day but is he championship material?

In 2008 he proved he was but thats only one occassion, plus that season the Ferrari TBH was a bit quicker and won more races that season. In 2009 he nearly suffered a career ending head-injury and since coming to back to the grid he hasn't really shown that promise he did in 2008.

Don't get me wrong he's a driver i very much like, but i do wonder if he'll be a title challenger again for Ferrari season in season out or if he'll stay at Ferrari much longer?

Whats your thoughts on Massa?

I read in the paper this morning that William Hill are offering special odds of 3-1 on Massa and Hamilton colliding in either of the remaining races.

I won't be taking that bet myself, and it doesn't seem to be on their website, but thought it might be of interest.

I'm a bit worried this thread and the Lewis thread are getting a bit close to each other in the listing.

I don't want them to collide into each other

;)
Don't worry about the threads they're just juxtaposing. Can't say the same about some of the poster's though. They've been clashing all season. I understand that some have even had their wings clipped .:D

A season to forget for Massa and would you believe you have to go back to 1992 for the last time that a Ferrari driver went an entire (well almost) season without sipping the champers and that was Ivan Capelli.

A big step up required next season but with so many top drivers seemingly signed up for 2013 now, where will Massa end up at the end of next season really does depend on what how he performs in 2012.

Massa needs to pull something awesome outta the hat next season if he wants to keep his Ferrari drive for 2013.

But if not, at least he needs to do is beat Alonso in a good handful of races just to prove the fighting spirit is still there. He also needs to put himself in the shopping window for a drive in 2013 either at Ferrari or a new team he can move to.

Might be a bit harsh to start criticizing Massa. Pat Fry has said they were having trouble getting the balance right on his car. Even if Alonso was having similar problems, and we don't know whether he was, not many drivers can drive around problems with a car the way he can. Maybe we should all cut Massa a little slack.

To be fair at this stage of the season (only Round 1 Quali completed) every team and every driver is a bit ragged and should be cut a bit of slack, we haven't even had one race yet for pete's sake!
kewee, would you agree that by the time F1 returns to the BBC we can take the gloves off, though?

I will make an exception in the case of HRT in general and Karthikeyan in particular about whom I can't in all conscience find any reason to have him in F1 at all.
PdlR in the HRT team, however, never set the world on fire but bearing in mind how fractured it was, his previous F1 career has been worthy of the "journeyman" tag rather than "no-hoper".

I'm in New Zealand. When does F1 return to the BBC? I watch on Sky over here. LOL

Hahahahahahahaha!!

I was being cryptic - F1 returns to the BBC for China, round 3, 13-15 April
(And I did remember from BBC606 that you're on the other side of the planet from me!)

Do you think that Massa can shake the gremlins off by China, and if he's rubbish then will it be fair to criticize him ?

I personally wasn't criticising him for today in particular, just the last 2 years.

I've always liked Massa as a person more than a driver. I remember how sporting he was in Brazil when he lost to Hamilton but he was always going to be crushed by Alonso. You probably remember I'm an Alonso fan also but to be honest, I'm the first to admit he's ruthless and was going to take ownership of Ferrari as a driver from the moment he arrived. Massa never stood a chance. In answer to your question. I won't criticize Massa but I do think his days at Ferrari will be over after this season. At the moment Ferrari's greatest strength is Alonso and is the only card they have to play until they sort their car, and even he will struggle for a while yet.
