Hmm I havn't played the game in a few months so I may be incorrect in what I say. However I mainly played the game in multiplayer and not Grand Prix mode, there the rules are strict, possibly too strict as you can't ride the kerbs at all, your lucky if you don't get a cut just for meeting the red and white apexes with one wheel.

However if you play the game with friends who are sensible and adhere to the proper rules in F1 such as not weaving then the game actually is incredibly fun.

I think you might be playing an too easy a level? It is hard to avoid penalties on amateur because the ai cars are so slow in the braking zone. You can easily run into the back of them or nudge them when they accelerate too slowly out of a corner. Try going up a level and see if that makes a difference?

That isn't my gameplay, I just used that as an example of the inconsistency of penalties (much like real life).

Over 75% of my time of the game is spent of multiplayer, where unless the people have done less than 5 races they are pretty competent.

Ah, sorry mate, those vids look a lot like what I had when I started playing the game on the easy setting. You can overtake 5 cars under braking, but it is so easy to get a pen with such a differential.

I wouldn't want anyone on here not to buy it because of some of these issues. If you like f1 and you like gaming, you should lile f1 2011. It's simple enough that my 4 and 7 year old kids can play it, and deep enough that I can. Yes, I will see the flaws, but its a computet game! There is a feature in f1 racing mag (december) about how far gaming has come since Geoff Crammond did Revs for the BBC micro.

The penalties can be a bit frustrating, but again remembering that kids are playing it its surely not a bad thing that cutting up opponents and taking other cars out are penalised? It does teach good driving standards in my view which is essential online! If you play the game sensibly, at the right level for your speed, penalties stop being a problem I found.

Same, only I've just got it and never played it! And I'm using a pad aswell, who needs a wheel eh? I'll start a thread on it tomorrow! It probz won't work out well, first race will be great then thats it!
 
Ok finally played it, and I like it!
First race, quick race Canada light rain, found out what button KERS was and started in 5th I think, first corner I was second and that's the story, finished 2nd. (on easy by the way)
So after that I started my career, Melbourne was the first race and practise was wet and I couldn't use DRS so I just decided to skip it and went straight to qually, first lap opened DRS too early and lost my front wing, second lap was my fast lap, on primes and I went 7th and didn't go for another one and started 9th, all on easy.
Race time, I'll edit when I have time!
 
I can't edit it out of the time but anyway,
Race time, starting 9th I had a bad start and used KERS to recover and got up to 4th when I got past Massa and Hamilton to 2nd, but my team-mate Sutil (who started 4th) was getting too close and was about to pass me so I had to put him in the wall! Safety car time and no front wing, down to 11th because I was overtaken by Buemi under SC because i had damage. ANyway I pitted for a new front wing and the other compund and was 22nd and last, SC came in and I was on a charge! Mostly because of cars pitting, and was up to 7th fighting with Barrichello and he pushed me into the pits nearly, but I escaped and got DRS and was up to 2nd because of pitted cars which meant I was hunting down the leader nick 'Heidfield' I got him a lap later and passed him with DRS, and went on to win!
A lot easier than 2010 but that might be because I'm used to the physics of the game, will try with a harder level later or tomorrow.
 
Try it on legend ;), actually it's manageable on legend but you have to put it all on the line to even match your competitors. I drive with all assists on except braking assist.
