A few drivers have changed their names Nelson Piquet was Nelson Piquet Souto Maior - Piquet being his mothers maiden name. Ayrton Senna da Silva - we all know. Bruno is Bruno Senna Lalli, Carlos Pace's first name was Jose, and, of course, Nigel Mansell's real name was Whinging Brummie git Mansell.

The difference is that Ayrton didn't choose to use the name Senna to try to capitalize on the fame of a predecessor the way Bruno is doing

Damon Hill openly admits that his surname got him onto a few more grids than he would have got had his name been Damon Smith. Also got race promoters "borrowing" other racers' 'bikes for him on occasion... Ah, the power of publicity.

I suppose there was that guy who pretended to be Michael Schumacher's brother for all those years, and that fella who claimed to be Gilles Villeneuve's son.

If your hiring on genetics you could look a fool. (Although most of the time it was Jacques who looked the fool).

No, Ayrton chose to use the name Senna as there were "lots of da Silvas" in Brazil, and he thought that using the name Senna would make him stand out in the media more, and make it easier to get sponsorship... So yes, he was using his name to capitalize.....

Wasn't it also to hide his racing from his family, or was that Piquet?

The Spanish speaking ones it's usually the father's name first, with the Portuguese ones usually but not always the father's name is last.

Carel Pieter Anthonie Hubertus Godin de Beaufort is a Dutch example.

I remember a quotation from a recent signing at Barcelona, who was horrified when his name was called out for his professional début at Highbury, for young Cesc had been registered "Fabregas". He'd said he thought his dad was playing!
