Why not have a draw after the race to determine whether high, medium or low points had been in effect? Mr Ecclestone could do this to ensure that there was fair play.
Actually there have been worse point scoring systems in the past in the 50's they had the, only the best four or five results counting towards the drivers championship depending on how many races were held in a season system and then there was the dropping your worst results system and the 5 from first 6, 4 from last 5 system and so on but at least this latest idea shows the sport has consistency in it's approach of coming up with shit ideas it isn't just a recent thing...
Mephistopheles - At least they abided by the principle that all races are equal. If they want to award double points for a race they should double the distance.
Apparently Ecclestone wants double points for the final three races or nothing at all.

Indeed teabagyokel. If this rule get's approved we are likely to see teams pulling out of the other GP's to safe their engine if they aren't in a good race position. Idiotic to say the least.
If the complaint is that the championship was settled too early in the season, how about this for a corrective strategy: go back to the previous points system which had a smaller difference between winning and taking second, etc. As I recall, they went to the current point system because they felt that "wins should count for more". And now they don't like the result of their handiwork.
Why didn't they adopt the Moto GP system of 25, 20, 16, 13, 11. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 this gives the lower teams a chance of getting points and a reason to keep on fighting if a top team is having a bad weekend as they can still score points which may be crucial come the end of the season.
This one works - the 2010/12 season finales were great with the 25 system. 2011 & 2013 were irredeemable and frankly it wouldn't be worth watching if anyone but Seb Vettel won those because he was clearly the best.
