Ask The Apex

This year's Moto GP season is on course to produce an exclusively Spanish list of GP winners.

Should it come to pass would it be the first time for any INTERNATIONAL motorsport discipline to register all race winners of the same nationality within the one season?

I've a question: who was in charge of the first "Trulli train"?

The furthest back I can go, off the top of my head, is Gilles in the 1980 Ferrari truck at Monaco and Jarama. Any advance?

tooncheese... I can see where you're coming from there, but Moss at Monaco was a little different, as he wasn't just holding all the cars back... It was regularly 2-3 seconds from Moss to the Ferraris - but I think you have a point here...

Watch the first few laps of the 1997 Japanese Grand Prix and suddenly the Trulli train becomes insignificant.

Also the first half of the 1986 Spanish Grand Prix, Senna had about 5 cars behind him (all saving fuel of course)

At its simplest KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) recovers kinetic energy from deceleration which is stored as kinetic energy in a fly wheel system or is converted and stored as electrical energy in a battery system. The energy recovery system (ERS) is so named because the newer system is designed to recover both kinetic and thermal energy.

KERS only uses Kinetic energy to charge the battery whereas ERS will also use Thermal as well as Kinetic energy TERS and so they have just called it ERS to simplify things.

KERS only allowed the driver to us 400Kj's of energy per lap for some 6 seconds (80bhp,) but ERS will allow the driver to use 4Mj's per lap for some 33.33 seconds. (160bhp.)

ERS will be charged from 2Mj's of Kinetic energy plus 2Mj's of Thermal energy....

I suppose they could have called it TAKERS Thermal And Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

I quite like that...LOL I'll give myself a pat on the back....
