Football All things Football

if lee carsley doesnt want the job, just tell us. Greece fully deserved that win & England are very fortunate it was just 2-1 as it could & shouldve been alot more. as greece scored 5 but 2 counted. in our 1st Wembley defeat with crowd since 2018 v spain

Carsley might have started well in his 2st 2 games. but he cocked up today. baffling decisions, 1st of all why as temporary manager are you experimenting. your not in charge long term. only for 6 games how with watkins & solanke at your disposal do you think false 9s are the way to & then carried on hopelessly for an hour

because of Carsley's pissing around & we are staring at either another yr in League B or promotion playoffs to get back to league A. which is unacceptable for this England team

im annoyed as england lost. but it was touching & emotional to see that baldock meant as much to greek players as he meant to us

Carsley was apparently responding to the criticism that England don't attack enough. The trouble is he did that by flooding the team with attacking players and leaving our defense hopeless.

The criticism of Southgate's England wasn't the squad it was that he sent the players out to play too cautiously. You don't fix that by playing 11 strikers.

Best thing about tonight should be that it will stir the FA into action.

Let's say England can't play with Palmer, Bellingham, Foden and Saka in the same 11 ever again. They need to learn like Man City find a flexible system.

Every time Greece counter attacked they were going to score as soon as the ball went past the midfield . It felt like Kalvin Phillips was needed

The 2nd goal was worse than school boy defending just boot it away !!

Lewis should not be left back.

I think a decent centre back partner needs to be found for Stones as well

The body language of some of the players should be a concern

you whats interesting what i just learnt that. if we dont top the group we will be in a group of 4 for world cup qualifying. because the group of 5 would clash with the promotion play offs in march

now that would be interesting no wonder they are calling it a must win game !

im surprised because i remember after the Capello debacle. FA said never again. & the English manager will always be english/british from now on. so im surprised they have changed there opinion in a way so soon we only had 2 long term managers since that statement. & i assumed potter was the natural fit

i think it's a great appointment. you look at what he's done. he took the impossible job of succeeding klopp at Dortmund & was successful. he was PSGs best manager of modern era, took a team that was constantly underperforming. won the treble & took them to only champions league final to date. was very good at chelsea & won the Champions league.

also when you think domestically. who was there for us to get. Howe is never going to leave Newcastle. is it too early for potter & carsley's too inexperienced. whats left, Lampard, Gerrard, Dyche, o'neil, Carrick

absoultely ridiculous that alot of respectable pundits. would rather have Frank Lampard than thomas tuchel

GB news would be having a fit. if they dont like a German because of events 80/85yrs ago. they wouldve been foaming at the mouth at my suggestion of pochettino & having an Argentinan in charge of English team

You can see it as the FA did not want to make a decision but the game against Greece was the nail in the coffin for Carsley

A mockery on their own coaching system

I think if it was Guardiola the reaction would have been delirious

The fact that it's Tuchel. He is tactically astute and his record proves it. 18 months sounds like deliver the World Cup or he is angling for one of the big clubs after the tournament

id agree this on the coaching badges. why are spain & italy producing managers. but we arent of the quality anymore. id argue the well has been drying up since Hodgson & Redknapp were going for the job post capello

is that we only had 2 decent English managers to take over. howe & potter. where is everyone else

thats normal, & make sense that you have a break clause after every major tournament

Unsurprisingly, Nigel Farage (whose great grandfather hails from Germany, and who was married to Kirsten Mehr, who is also German- That means that his children are (at least) 9/16ths German...) has lambasted the decision

that line is typical farage opportunism. & shows that hes a guy that watches 1 england game every 2 years. wouldnt be able to recognise any of English coaches that were overlooked

it worked for spain they hired an low profile, inexperienced manager. so carsley couldve worked. i think FA need to look at why other countries coaching badges preparing managers better. as you look at xabi alonso & Gerrard theyve played in the same team. but 1 got coaching badges in spain & 1 in England. 1 is huge success with bayer leverkusen. the other had brief success in scotland & underperformed in premier league so much he's in saudi Arabia

The FA are just out of touch old farts

Having said that those crying about Tuchel not being English... until Southgate all the English managers after Robson except Venables have been abysmal in tournament football

I laugh at both Carragher and Neville moaning as pundits seeing they both played under Erikson and Capello for England

I really don't give the furry crack of a rats arse who the manager of England is or where they come from.

I do however find it hilarious about the quandary that Southgate has placed the FA in. Here we have a manager who, prior to taking charge of the England men's national team had managed one club and the England under 21 side. He had no record of success and not won a single honour as a manager. Yet there he sits as the second most successful England manager in history.

So apparently you don't need to be a world renowned manager, you don't need to have a long CV of club management and a trophy cabinet full of cups and medals. Or do you?

I'm not sure how Tuchel will do. He has an impressive CV and the huge trophy cabinet however, despite taking over clubs at or near their peak and having initial success, he tends to leave them in worse positions than when he arrived. Maybe that's why he only has an 18 month contract.
