I got to watch yesterdays test last night (I recorded it so that it could be put on fast forward when nothing interesting was happening.)
a couple of things struck me.

- The guy being interviewed (From Marussia I believe.) said there was no such thing as sandbagging any more in F1 testing and that all the teams have been working on their 2014 cars since the middle of last year.
- Adrian Sutil said he does not have a relationship with Lewis any more and doesn't want one he will not be speaking to him when they get to Australia even though Lewis has been trying to patch things up between them.
- Sutil said he is bringing personal sponsorship with him but no money for the team from sponsors..
Mephistopheles I laughed my arse off at the 'there is no such thing as sandbagging' guy. He then went on to say that all teams run a base line of fuel, for some its very little for others its much more and they wont run below that base line. WTF. If that isn't the very definition of sandbagging then what is. 
I guess Sutil believes that with Hamilton's testimony then he would have been found not guilty and would not have spent a year out of F1.
Hamilton has emailed Sutil several times to congratulate him and had no reply.

I've been thinking the same thing but was too afraid to say it.
Lewis's appearances with the "Sky Crew" and the fact that they can't wipe the smile off his face also suggest that the Mercedes is quite a promising car.
Nico also looks very perky.
Is Hamilton exceptional in the wet? I think he is just very fast normally, but doesn't suddenly have an advantage when it rains. Amongst the top guys rain performance seems to vary from season to season, and car to car.

Grosjean's comments about Merc in the wet was referring to Rosberg today - so not Hamilton. What basis do you have for saying Mercedes won't be anywhere near RB and McLaren other than the fact that Merc were slow at the end of last year? Everyone, especially those in the media have used this to put a downer on Mercedes season before it has even started.
The fact of the matter is that no one truely knows, even the teams themselves, but they do have a much better idea and the fact both JB and Grosjean are saying Mercedes looks quick, means a lot more than what we know as they'll have much better inside knowledge. I've personally been studying all of the testing times and Mercedes have never been slow even on heavy fuel. They've also set some eye opening times - Lewis did a 1.22.8 on Hards on a 9 lap run and he also did a 1.23.2 on Mediums on a 16 lap run when the track was drying from rain all morning. Over the last 2 days both Lewis and Nico have done race simulations that have looked impressive. There is no way around this - we're talking facts here.
I agree with you in the sense that I would also be VERY surprised if Merc were faster than RB or McLaren, but I do think they'll be fairly close based on what we've seen so far. A lot depends on the upgrades they all introduce over the weekend. RB and McLaren will likely have massive upgrades, so it depends whether Merc can compete with that. I believe Melbourne could be a strong track for Merc as well due to the fact it requires mechanical grip, which is their strong point and doesn't have so many high speed corners - their weak point.

He has an exceptional feel for what the car is doing under him, it used to give him a big advantage in the wet, however McLaren went down a very rigid route with their car, easily the stiffest looking car since 2009. In the wet the last thing you want is stiff suspension but they chose to live with that compromise.
