Max Chilton

There has been speculation about this guy potentially being on the F1 grid next season as the 2nd Marussia driver so does this guy deserve to be there on merit or is he a pay per driver ?

Brother of Tom who races in touring cars because he is too tall for F1.
His junior record is not impressive as he was only 4th in British F3 2009 won by his teammate Daniel Ricciardo and 4th in Gp2 this season behind Sauber bound Gutierrez, Razia and Valsechi ( neither of the latter two appear have found drives for 2013)

However he has shown capability now and then to race at the front with wins and podiums occasionally

Before the British press starts hyping this guy as a potential world champion. What is his true potential out of curiousity?

Funny old world, in my line of work if you couldn't cut it in three months you were out on your ear!

Depends on what you class as cutting it. I'm guessing after 3 months you were expected to be able to do the job not be the best person in the entire business.

Max will have contract to drive for the year which, with the backing he brings, will mean Marussia will keep him there for the year. Drivers also have to be registered for the team with the FIA and breaking a contract is quite difficult in F1. The sort of contracts the average person has cannot be compared to those of an F1 driver.

Another nod to Max today as despite being called an idiot by VDG for something that wasn't his fault he had a rocket start and managed to beat Bianchi today by about 20 seconds.

Can't really ask much more of him at the min.

Still not sure Max will ever be a superstar but he does appear to be getting the hang of things.

It's the one record Vettel will never be able to take!
Are you serious? He's nearly there.

Once Adrian Newey finds a few more tenths the car will be going faster than the speed of light. Vettel will then do the superman round the world time reverse trick and beat Chiltons record.

On a serious note if Chilton knows how to look after his car then it's surely a bonus for a small team. Marussia don't have the huge repair bills that many of the other new drivers have inflicted. Maybe a career in endurance racing could be beckoning once the F1 money runs out.

Its because he's not going fast enough to break it :wave:

Is it just me or is Max looking younger and younger these days.

Hope he has a better second year for 2014 and takes his team mate by the throat.

We all make lots of jokes about Max but I think we need to all take a moment to give him some credit after his performance in Bahrain and the first 3 races of 2014.

In Bahrain he finished 13th and was 30 seconds clear of Kobyashi in the Caterham despite the safety car. As Caterham have stated they bought in Kobi to 'beat Bianchi' thats one in the eye for them.

Marussia sit above Caterham in the constructors championship on Chilton's results alone.
