I was just thinking the exact opposite the other day. There are now so many channels that need to fill their time slots that crap that would be we have made into on the screen previously is in prime time slots.

Heard an interview with Richard Osman the other day and he was saying that basically with the restrictions on filming due to Covid you are barely going to get any new drama in 2021. Prepare for a sudden push in nostalgia and repeats of series they are labelling 'classics'.

i agree on classics we already seen that with ITV "another chance to see series's" & "best of's" & there are going crap on specialist channels yes im looking at you ITV Be & channel that has the crap of real housewives or Kardashians

but i think their is a better strength in depth of television now than at any point & i might be wrong but from the 70s outside of comedy fawlty towers, Monty python, morecambe and wise, 2 ronnies very little be rewatched & only lasted . just look at early doctor who. i feel its because of the increase in choice, more shows coming from America & massive increase in budget in last 20yrs we had some great shows (some ive seen some from reputation) game of thrones, elementary, blue bloods, the stranger, the Last dance, CSI, sherlock, the wire, taskmaster. numerous ones on iplayer & theres been recently some great documentaries on tv.

Are you sure it's not to do with your age? I can't name you much good TV from the 70s because I wasn't around to watch it - but I bet you there are a whole host of people on here who can.

I can name you over a hundred TV series from the 90s and 00s I think are superior to what we get today (most of them have been rebooted) but again that is to do with my age and when TV influenced me the most.

maybe but i feel like ive seen a good amount of the old shows & i think there was lower standards in 1970's because you had 3 channels. looking though the schedule. its really only panel shows, sitcoms & comedy that you look back & say its alright. drama was non existant seemingly

I remember a few great 70's Dramas such as Van Der Valk and The Onedin Line but I was only a toddler so don't remember too many at the time.

Later on though, I've caught up with a few more.

Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy is utterly outstanding.

Isn't the 70s where the TV format was developed? Things like The Sweeney, The Protectors, Man From Uncle etc etc. Isn't that where modern TV was born?

Not really. There were plenty of TV series in the 50's and 60's. Indeed lots of famous 70's TV actually started in the 60's and ran across 2 decades or one thing span off into another.

I guess the 60's and 70's comedy programs have been able to find new audiiances and hasn't dated in the same way that some of the drama series have.

the sweeney is probably stands up as good now & does remind me of modern blue bloods. which is quite violent police wise at times

but it just feels that wasnt much budget in tv in 70s. doctor who is main example but shows that didnt need much budget worked

It was vey good, but Britain achieved superior engineering in the engine and aerodynamics without huge government backing, Germany was always playing catch up.

watched the Eurovision movie yesterday. i quite liked it. of course im the target market. ive not missed a Eurovision for 18+ years. but surprisingly for Americans they have the tone of the contest down to a T. they got some funny moments. a nice warming story thoughtout & the movie is alot like Eurovision in a way. a brilliant watch but not because of quality so once you get past it not a oscar classic its very enjoyable

F1Brits_90 There is a lot to like about the Eurovision movie. The one thing that I don't like is the constant innuendo! Just look at the lyrics for Jaja Ding Dong...

When I feel your gentle touch
And things are going our way
I want to spill my love on you
All day all day

Jaja ding dong
My love for you is growing wide and long
Jaja ding dong
I swell and burst when I see what we become
Jaja ding dong
Come on come on baby we can get love on
Jaja ding dong
When I see you I feel like ding ding dong.

Loves expands when I'm with you, all over the milky way
I want to open up to you, all day all day...

Jaja ding dong
My love for you is growing wide and long
Jaja ding dong
I swell and burst when I see what we become
Jaja ding dong
Come on come on baby we can get love on
Jaja ding dong
When I see you I feel like ding ding dong.
