Grand Prix 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

I know I watched this race last year, as when I went back to read the Wiki report it reminded me that 1) it was on a Saturday, and 2) Ollie Bearman subbed in for Carlos Sainz, as the Spaniard was having his appendix removed, and scored points in his first F1 race. Beyond that I have no recollection of this race whatsoever.

As always in Middle East races, this will be under lights, so a European TV audience can watch it at "primetime". It's also quite warm during the day, although it's still pretty hot at night, with predictions of the mid to late 20's Celsius for the later sessions (that's around 80F for those who still work in old money).

As per the previous races this season, expect McLaren to be heading the field. Where questions do arise is which of the McLaren will be ahead, with Piastri showing better speed and race craft than Norris so far this season. Also, which car will be second quickest? Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes have all shown some speed in previous races, and amongst the mid-field we have had Alpine and Hass mixing it up with the Racing Bulls and Williams. Down at the back Aston Martin, or Adrian Newey's Aston Martin as I'm sure they will become and Sauber are tussling over who is worst of the rest. Don't worry guys, Cadillac will be on the grid shortly and you will feel quite speedy by comparison. For a little while, anyway.

What else is there to say about another F1 race at an installation in the desert? The track is quick, they have tried to create some jeopardy by putting barriers around many of the straight bit, but there are still significant run off areas which, unless you are Lance Stroll, should allow you to make a mistake and still keep going.

The last race in Bahrain was better than Japan, but that's a bit like saying stubbing your toe is less painful than hitting your thumb with a hammer. I wonder what this race will produce. Here are the UK timings, courtesy of the F1.com website which as always, are upside down.

Once again Max Verstappen arrives at the apex of the corner first, but with no intention of making the corner. I wonder when the penny will drop with him, that he is the common denominator in all this.
He won't so as long as he wins or he ends up in hospital

What Piastri did yesterday was exactly what everyone needs to do to Verstappen because he can't fight them all.. I would come back with "It's racing, if people don't like it they can stay at home " response

You've got to make Verstappen feel he is not invincible and reduced to a mortal. Piastri gets it the others need to follow suit

He was quiet most of the race but when will Ferrari start putting serious pressure on Hamilton about his performances?
in fairness he play a massive part helping Leclerc get a podium yesterday. interesting in the cool down room Leclerc complained about heavy steering & in bahrain how he having car set up in extreme ways, hamilton really struggled in the 1st sector all weekend he had no confidence. was losing half a second in the 1st sector compared to the mclarens

he was only 7pts behind coming into saudi despite everything. but i guess you have to give him til mid season.

we all knew he was going to do that, even brundle saw it coming when he predicted the radio messages the 1st lap. in a perfect world i would like all drivers to leave a space, but yeah Verstappen aggressive nature has come back to bite him & if he left a space with Hamilton & Norris then maybe he wouldve been left a space yesterday

He admitted its him but surely there was never going to be a silver bullet from one car to.tge other.

Kimi is doing better because Mercedes got him to test to familiarise with the car

I agree mid season but I can't see Ferrari deciding they will sign Verstappen which is the most insane decision 🤔to do if they feel Hamilton is not up to it

Basically we're in a situation now where drivers are incapable of taking a corner.

Track designs are such that there is no risk of running off so no one backs off and everything has to be sorted out in the stewards room.

Imagine a football pitch where the goal for each team starts at the halfway line and runs all the way around the pitch to the other side and is 100 feet high. To keep goals to a sensible level the FA then introduce more rules to tighten up when and where you can shoot leading to more rule interpretation and greater controversy. It would be even worse than VAR now.

There were controversial decisions in the 80's and 90's but if you went into a corner and didn't concede, you had to either hit something or got stuck. That was the punishment. No need for stewards.

Agree. They need to bring back the walls.

Walls, gravel traps, lumps and bumps, basically anything to safely remove the ability of cars simply ignoring bends in the track.
Exactly whilst I don't think Verstappen 's record will look as good I suspect his rivals will be shoved off into the gravel. Horner will come up with any other excuse to not get him banned

Also, we once again heard Brundle's classic "Sainz let him pass because he isn't in a fight with him today"
I’m not sure I agree entirely with your hatred of this. Tactically, it may be the correct thing to do to let a faster car by, simply because fighting and defending hard leads to losing more time on the track, and possibly over-stressing the tyres.

It often leads to a better race outcome by letting an obviously faster car through, rather than defend, defend, defend, and then submitting to the inevitable.

Around Monaco, it’s different, and Coulthard was never getting past Bernoldi, even if the race lasted for 2 days!
