Grand Prix 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

I know I watched this race last year, as when I went back to read the Wiki report it reminded me that 1) it was on a Saturday, and 2) Ollie Bearman subbed in for Carlos Sainz, as the Spaniard was having his appendix removed, and scored points in his first F1 race. Beyond that I have no recollection of this race whatsoever.

As always in Middle East races, this will be under lights, so a European TV audience can watch it at "primetime". It's also quite warm during the day, although it's still pretty hot at night, with predictions of the mid to late 20's Celsius for the later sessions (that's around 80F for those who still work in old money).

As per the previous races this season, expect McLaren to be heading the field. Where questions do arise is which of the McLaren will be ahead, with Piastri showing better speed and race craft than Norris so far this season. Also, which car will be second quickest? Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes have all shown some speed in previous races, and amongst the mid-field we have had Alpine and Hass mixing it up with the Racing Bulls and Williams. Down at the back Aston Martin, or Adrian Newey's Aston Martin as I'm sure they will become and Sauber are tussling over who is worst of the rest. Don't worry guys, Cadillac will be on the grid shortly and you will feel quite speedy by comparison. For a little while, anyway.

What else is there to say about another F1 race at an installation in the desert? The track is quick, they have tried to create some jeopardy by putting barriers around many of the straight bit, but there are still significant run off areas which, unless you are Lance Stroll, should allow you to make a mistake and still keep going.

The last race in Bahrain was better than Japan, but that's a bit like saying stubbing your toe is less painful than hitting your thumb with a hammer. I wonder what this race will produce. Here are the UK timings, courtesy of the F1.com website which as always, are upside down.

im in delay. just seen lap 1 & that was very over ambitious move by gasly. im not sure why he thought he could go around the outside of tsunoda there

with max , piastri he did have the corner & led at the apex. yes max was going to do that regardless if he was 2nd going into the 1st corner but piastri didnt give max a cars width. he was over the white line

At least try and make the corner. He also increased his gap as well. I knew Piastri was going to send a message to Verstappen

i never know in F1. as they seem to pick & choose when to apply it. but i don't know if the alonso "all the time you need to leave a space" is still a rule or if that went years back

but even max tried to make the corner which he never would've he taking run off regardless & this might maxs tactics coming back to bite him now he on wrong side of them. but piastris got 2 wheels on kerb. so there is nowhere for max to go if even he had tried

That was an instantly forgettable race on a hugely forgettable race track.
it was dull not as dull as suzuka. im worried we will not get a battle for the lead in dry conditions all season because the dirty air is bad as ive known it since 2017. due to pirelli or aerodynamics. its as if nobody can get close enough to make an overtake

I thought Piastri statement on the radio was brilliant "He was never going to make the corner' given what happened in 2021 it set a precedent

No doubt the Verstappen fans will say the FIA are bias but he does bring it upon himself to deal with consequences later.

I also look at the at the F2 race basically every driver ceded if they were going to the run off at turn 1 and Verstappen 's line compared to the F2 cars going off showed he was short cutting even more without making the apex.

If it was the other way round he would have just drifted wide to force Piastri off, he justed used the same tactics since 2021 8ts scout time they clamp down this is F1 racing not off road racing

However I like Piastri 's attitude towards Verstappen as a statement of intent

Turd race with a smooth track low tyre wear

If the hot headed Harry had handed the place back as everyone knew he should have done, he may very well have gone on to win the race.

The only interesting part after his penalty was wondering if the 5 seconds would have made a difference thanks to a poorly timed safety car or a botched pit stop (very nearly eh McLaren?).

Also, we once again heard Brundle's classic "Sainz let him pass because he isn't in a fight with him today"

:censored:, :censored: and :censored: again!!!

I hate it so much when he says that.

Everyone on the track is in a fight with everyone else. Who's to say there's not going to be a red flag and points awarded for the places on the previous lap? Is he suggesting that if there's three laps to go and Sainz is in third he should just leap out of the way because he isn't in a title scrap with Norris?

Notice Marty didn't repeat that line when Piastri overtook Hamilton.

I could just imagine Martin commenting on a footy match. "Brentford have nothing to play for at this stage of the season so why aren't they letting Nottingham Forrest score five?"

If a team or driver stuffs up why should you move out of the way?

I am in agreement with you about Verstappen the irony should not be lost that he might won the race if he gave the place back. However finally the stewards thave woken up to his offroad antics and Piastri is not scared of him.

Exactly.

Brundle's argument has always been (ever since Enrique Bernoldi held up his mate DC at Monaco about 20 years ago) that if you are in a slower car ahead of a faster one that's out of position you should just jump out of the way because you wouldn't normally have been in front of it.

To which of course I say "Bollocks"

If you're behind, you're behind and the car in front is entitled to fight to stay ahead.

I remember that race and Ron Dennis accused Bernoldi of trying to end a drivers career. Today everyone just seem to jump out of the way!

Like Hamilton who was actually racing and passed Norris brilliantly twice and cost Lando a podium

I think Piastri will win the championship. He reminds me of 2007 Hamilton vs 2007 Alonso. I just hope that Max doesn’t pull a Kimi.
