Television Top Gear

In all honesty, I cannot say that I will miss Clarkson one iota. He always reminded me of the late Richard Dawson more than anyone else. And THAT is no compliment.

The man who plays Alan Partridge (avoiding names) is known to be a bit punchy isn't he?
Chris Evans has ruled himself out, thank goodness.

What I don't understand is how can you physically abuse someone for 30 seconds and that person only ends up with a split lip? And then verbally abuse him loudly for 20 minutes which apparently everyone in the hotel heard. Didn't anyone think to stop Jeremy? Or even record it? And why did Tymon take himself to A&E - didn't anyone offer to help?
All very odd.

Maybe Clarkson hits like a girl?

That is basically what Piers Morgan said.

Personally, I enjoy watching top gear, and it will not be the same without the three amigos, however, this to me was a no brainier. The bbc did a proper investigation, and based on the undisputed facts, they have sacked the person in the wrong.

The biggest issue for me in this whole sorry affair is that the completely innocent Oisin Tymon is now getting abuse from all sides on Twitter etc, which is disgusting. None of this is his fault at all, he'll, it was not even him who reported it fa.

Oisin Tymon is now getting abuse from all sides on Twitter etc
You only have to read the HYS comments on the BBC article to realise how brainless (some of) the morons are who watch the program.

So it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

The problem now for the BBC is that with Top Gear they've made a rod for their own backs. They stopped making it for the healthy 4 or 5 million BBC2 viewers years ago. The show has been designed to appeal to audiences from Afghanistan to Zanzibar. Goofing around with cars translates a lot better in any language than a lengthy debate on the merits of a V8 over a straight 6. Even if the presenters wanted to do a little more straight up car stuff, the money pouring into BBC Worldwide (reckoned to be around 50 million a year) meant that it was more dicking around if you please.

So what do the BBC do? They say they want to re-launch Top Gear in 2016. It looks potentially as if they will need to recruit all new presenters. Three new guys / girls doing "dicking around" will just seem forced and trying to repeat the past. A return to a straight up car show will be unsaleable abroad and 'not Top Gear' at home. They're dammed if they do and dammed if they don't change the format.

Better to broadcast the last three episodes and then tow the good ship TG to the breakers yard and scrap it. Launch a new program in it's place that clearly isn't Top Gear and take it from there.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't loath Top Gear but it was just a case of the tail wagging the dog with the way it was pushed out to the world to make the BBC money. We pay our licence fee to fund the BBC and expect a range of programs for our money. In the case of Top Gear it was being made for the profit and to appeal to an audience over seas that would ensure that profit remained.

Other BBC shows have been going down the same road. Dr Who for example.

As far as I read it the BBC have not "sacked" him ; they simply have not renewed his contract. Not sacked = no need to defend themsleves from possible wrongful termination lawsuits.

I sense very carefully chosen words from very well paid lawyers ; If he had simply hit the other chap its a no contest sacking (and totally deserved too).

They also call it an "altercation" = argument, quarrel, squabble, fight, shouting match, contretemps, disagreement, difference of opinion, dissension, falling-out, dispute, disputation, contention, clash, acrimonious exchange, war of words, wrangle; they do not simply say "Jermey hit the other guy" So was the pushing and shoving two way?

I just am left with the feeling that they did not have enough on him to "fire" him so this middle ground mish-mash is whats left...Having said all of that the verbal assault element should have been enough to trigger a disciplinary process.

At the end of this both the BBC and JC will be happy to be going separate ways.

If 20 minutes of verbal abuse and a 30 second physical altercation that resulted in the producer receiving an injury to his mouth doesn't constitute 'Gross misconduct' then all employment law should be scrapped.

It was far easier to not renew his contract than go through the protracted proceedings for a formal dismissal. From the looks of it, a comprehensive investigation was conducted and resultant action all above board. I took a look at the BBC webpage and some of the posts on there accusing the BBC of chopping a right wing hero due to their left wing bias are quite insane.

The BBC have done absolutely nothing wrong.

Put yourself in the same situation. You are a manager at your company. You inform a member of staff that they can't have something. That member of staff then abuses you both verbally and physically. Would you stand for that? If you would then you must be crazy. In any other walk of life the individual concerned would be sacked and that would be that. (not withstanding mephs story above of course ;) )

There is no conspiracy, no hint of unfair dismissal and definitely the right actions were taken in the wake of the incident.

Well the police have asked to look at the evidence so if they do nothing then all I will draw from that is that it was something and nothing, also the "So called" victim has not made a complaint so it could simply be a case of half a dozen of one and six of the other handbags at dawn scinario.

Also from what I've read the beeb were embarrassed by the peado Jimmy thing so they are being extra cautious in this matter just like the FIA are being extra cautious over the Alonso's tap on the head saga..

Personally I believe that everyone is running shit scared because the UK has finally realised that we have joined America in the sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue sue, sue everyone and everything situation, the I tripped over a loose paving slab on your property and hurt my little toe I hope you have some bloody good insurance because I'm gonna sue you mister and I'm gonna sue McDonald's for making me fat because I ate fifteen hamburgers and large fries per day and I'm gonna sue W.D & H.O Wills because I smoked 60 a day and now I've got lung cancer, brigade.

My brother went to Torquay for a weekend got smashed out of his face went into a kebab shop bought a kebab tripped over a step on his way out and broke a couple of teeth sued the kebab shop and got a nice eight grand for his troubles thank you very much, and guess who advised him to sue,,, yes me that's right because I knew he would win..

At least Jezza admitted what he did.

So you admit being part of the problem?

Regardless, it's nothing to do with the increasing litigation culture.

He physically assaulted someone he works with, while at work or on a work related assignment (while being on a final warning).

How millions seem willing to excuse that is beyond me.

His arrogance has been breathtaking and the outcome was inevitable, in saying that Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond will be picked up by a rival broadcaster who will repackage the same format with a different name and all will continue. Unfortunately for the BBC the broadcasters in other countries such as Top Gear USA (which is a sad copy) will also shut shop and then realign themselves with the new Clarkson venture and the big looser will be the BBC. Very sad that appalling behaviour will end up winning out.

Top Gear won't work, or the Clarkson/May/Hammond version anyway, on advertising funded TV as no car company would put there vehicle up for ridicule and then pay to advertise it during the program. I will also admit that the "Last of the Summer Wine" format was getting a but tired so maybe the program was due an overhaul. There are also lots of very interesting car programs on other channels which do actually talk about cars.

Just on the ginger twat, I for one have never watched a single program he has presented and never will. Apparently the smart money is on Guy Martin as the next "anchor" which might well take it back to being a car show.

With the temptation of the income the Clarkson, May, Hammond trio can generate I'd be surprised if another broadcaster didn't find a way to make something happen.

I like Guy Martin FB, we get him on Geographic and History on Sky over here. I can never understand a word he says though.LOL

I realize that the world is filling up with over sensitive, politically correct sissies but am still surprised how many people on this forum dislike Jeremy. The three of them should just create a Youtube Channel and do their own auto-related videos because they can say anything they want and can't be fired. 1000 Youtube views works out to around $1.00 and I read that TG gets 350 million viewers each week so if even half those watch the Youtube Video, that's $175,000 for the boys to split and pay for the camera/editing guys.
