The 2009 season

It struck me that we don't have a general thread on the season, drivers, teams, etc.
So let's remedy that right now :D

You can refresh your memories on who has finished where and scored what with the rather handy tables in this thread: F1 2009 Standings

All the head to head data is available here: F1 Head To Head 2009

The fuel adjusted grid data is here: F1 Fuel Adjusted Grids & Qualifying Times 2009

Fastest laps analysis is here: F1 Fastest Laps 2009

A couple of useful charts showing the progress of the drivers and teams through the season (also shown below): F1 WDC & WCC Points 2009

A couple of things stand out from all the data:

1. Brawn are on the decline and Red Bull are on the up.
2. Ferrari are scoring steadily and are on course for a top 3 finish, but they will have to fight it out with McLaren, Toyota and Williams
3. McLaren would appear to have made a significant improvement but we don't yet know how well they will fare going forwards.
4, Poor Force-India.
5. Nico Rosberg has slipped almost unnoticed into 5th place in the WDC.
6. Renault were right to sack Nelsinho Piquet, even if he didn't have equal treatment.
7. Perhaps Williams and Brawn should do the same looking at the chart below? :D

So what does everyone else make of the season so far?
And how do you think it's going to pan out for the remaining 7 races?

Interesting from the bottom chart that Vettel is quite a bit ahead of Webber yet he is behind him in the standings. Also, I doubt many people would have thought that Fisi is actually 'outperforming' young Sutil.

That's down to Vettel's retirement in Hungary.
Since Monaco they've been neck and neck though.

As the season is drawing to a close, what have been the highs and lows?

Reading the comments in the opening post it's interesting to see how things have changed in the second half of the season.

Well Jenson and Brawn have finally managed to seal the titles.

Here's an interesting table though. This is in order for most points scored since the British GP which is when the other teams started to catch up with Brawn.

Driver Gbr	Ger	Hun	Eur	Bel	Ita	Sin	Jpn	Bra	Abu	Total
Sebastian Vettel 10 8 6 1 5 10 5 45
Lewis Hamilton 10 8 10 6 6 40
Kimi Räikkönen 1 8 6 10 6 5 3 39
Rubens Barrichello 6 3 10 2 10 3 2 1 37
Mark Webber 8 10 6 10 34
Jenson Button 3 4 2 2 8 4 1 4 28
Nico Rosberg 4 5 5 4 1 4 23
Heikki Kovalainen 1 4 5 3 3 2 18
Robert Kubica 1 5 1 8 15
Fernando Alonso 2 3 4 6 15
Felipe Massa 5 6 11
Jarno Trulli 2 1 8 11
Timo Glock 3 8 11
Nick Heidfeld 4 2 3 9
Giancarlo Fisichella 8 8
Adrian Sutil 5 5
Sébastien Buemi 2 2
Sébastien Bourdais 0

And this is the first 7 races.

Driver Aus	Mal	Chn	Bhr	Spn	Mon	Tur	Total
Jenson Button 10 5 6 10 10 10 10 61
Rubens Barrichello 8 2 5 4 8 8 35
Sebastian Vettel 10 8 5 6 29
Mark Webber 1.5 8 6 4 8 27.5
Jarno Trulli 6 2.5 6 5 19.5
Timo Glock 5 3 2 2 1 13
Nico Rosberg 3 0.5 1 3 4 11.5
Fernando Alonso 4 1 4 2 11
Felipe Massa 3 5 3 11
Lewis Hamilton 1 3 5 9
Kimi Räikkönen 3 6 9
Nick Heidfeld 4 2 6
Heikki Kovalainen 4 4
Sébastien Buemi 2 1 3
Robert Kubica 2 2
Sébastien Bourdais 1 1 2
Giancarlo Fisichella 0
Adrian Sutil 0

This season really has been a tale of 2 halves.

Another idle waste of time from me but I don't think this view is here so...

It shows the number of points finishes each driver had, e.g. Hamilton got in the points fewer times than anyone else in the top seven yet finished fifth. It doesn't really reveal anything everyone didn't already know and might not make much sense until the end of the season but it might be more revealing with the 2010 points system than last year's.
