Romain Grosjean

Was drafted into F1 with not an ounce of testing and replaced Nelson Piquet Jr in the middle of 2009 when he was possibly on route to becoming the GP2 Champion that season, which went to Nico Hulkenburg.

In his 7 races in F1 he failed to impress and the no in-season testing rule didn't help his course. Plus having Fernando Alonso as his teammate couldn't have helped either.

In 2010 Grosjean went to do Auto GP, before returning back to GP2 on July 20th for a few guess appearances for DAM'S. But in 2011 Grosjean was given a full-time drive by DAM'S for the 2011 GP2 series and went on to become the 2011 GP2 Champion.

My question is will Grosjean get a drive for 2012? Plus how far can this guy go if he gets into F1?

RoGro picked up a couple of points. Got to be better than not finishing and is several years behind Kimi in experience!

@JostheBoss Nope, both of them had the latest version of the exhaust(which only Kimi had back in Sepang) here...
Jen True, but he was too far behind his teammate this weekend. There can be no excuses for a Lotus driver for being beaten by a Toro Rosso and a McLaren

Sorry, I think you're wrong - all this from a guy who has just learnt to finish a GP - I think he did well

Jen makes a valid point about the relative experience, but it didn't seem to be a problem for Romain last year as far as speed was concerned. Maybe he isn't at one with the car yet. It would be a shame if his head has gone.

I don't want to upset the male contingent nor the youngsters on the forum but I have noticed that some chaps take a lot longer than others to mature.

I think this is quite a prevalent characteristic in relation to the current grid and was, also, seen amongst some of its 'older' members initially.

It takes a while to realise that racing isn't just about speed or themselves and take on board that circumspection, consistency and team effort will get them a little further in their quest to dominate the sport.

Romain has reached this point and Perez is getting there

Massa was the crash kid for years before he improved his reputation (he's still shocking in the wet though). Give Grosjean a little more time.

I wouldn't say Grosjean has been neccesarily bad so far and we are only three races in. The car is a top ten car and thats where he's been putting it. We'll see id he picks it up by europe.

Romain has been given a new chassis to work with

I am surprised how he's not up there with Kimi this year

I thought he would be a dark horse or certainly one to threaten the other teams with a years experience under his belt

I don;t think its fair to judge him on 2009 F1 season because really the team was in a right mess and he was thrown into the deep end by Flavio's self interested purpose initially

Methinks he has had to calm down so that he can look harder to see what's happening around him to avoid his crashing out mistakes. I suspected, and may have commented some time ago, that his problem may be a lack of spatial awareness. It's not unusual to see fast guys trained to stop crashing but losing their speed as a consequence. There is also the psychological aspect if he has now become over cautious for fear of rebuke. We will need to be further into the season to reach a definitive conclusion but it's no coincidence that RoGro has slowed significantly since the criticism he suffered last season.
