Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

There's this but it's 6 months old.

Complete guesswork on your part of course. What's the point of an interview when you don't know when or where your return is going to be, or indeed how long exactly you need to recover?

When his manager was asked when he would be back in the paddock, he was told it would be when he was wearing a helmet and overalls.

You are certainly right, G. No one, not even Robert or his doctors know when he will have recovered from his initial injuries. I think people's comments on here reflect the sadness we all have that such a talented guy is in this situation, where no one knows when or even if he will be able to drive a car again like he used to be able to.

I think that's a typically generous interpretation by yourself, Jez. A less generous soul might speculate that we have a load of armchair neurosurgeons here.

Insults now.OK. Kubica does not need to specifically say I will be back on any given date. But he should respect his fans and talk to them even if he has no specific answers.
How come Graham Hill can pull up his trouser leg on TV and point to the slight protuberance and say that this is the problem at the moment.
Is that beyond Kubica's capability.
No.He is ducking the question.

part of the "inner clique"
Presumably by that you mean a member of the site staff?

There are no cliques on here, despite what you may think.

Unlike Graham Hill, Kubica is very shy, he's like Kimi Raikkonen, he's quiet, he tries to keep out of the media, after his crash he did say thank you for the support to his fans.

He's having a tough time right now, I'm sure his fans and others can forgive him for being quiet at this moment of time.

Being a fan of his, I hope he can return, 2013 he could but F1 moves fast.

Maybe Lotus-Renault ditched him because they finally knew of his condition or because he just left them in the dark, or he had an offer somewhere else.

Who knows...he's an enigma.

No.I mean't that I had to tolerate barbed comments like this without responding..
A less generous soul might speculate that we have a load of armchair neurosurgeons here.
That was the reason for my response.

The comment was general, not specific, as the use of the plural should make clear, and in the context of this thread applies equally to Brogan, and others, as it does to you. If the moderators believe I have behaved inappropriately I would encourage them to take action - I'm not aware of there ever having been any special treatment shown towards anyone, certainly not myself.

Regarding Kubica, I see no actual grounds whatsoever for the general pessimism of this thread, albeit none for optimism either, so I'm not going to create an opinion out of thin air - simply await the next bulletin from the professionals who are treating him, and hope for the best.

I never though he looked particularly well before he had an argument with an armco barrier and the picture up the top looks very sad indeed. I'd love to think that he could recover from this but history has shown that drivers that come back from serious injuries are rarely capable of competing right at the very top and it would be astonishing, even with the advances in modern medicine, if Kubica were able to buck this trend.

Every injury is different, everybody´s ability to recover is different, everyone´s psychological fortitude is different and everybody´s personality is different. Sweeping statements and speculation are pointless. He will be back when and if he is back, and will either drive as well as his former self, or not.

I too was saddened to hear of Robert's setback. If we are 'gutted' by the news imagine how he must be feeling.
I'm not surprised he's not doing interviews. He never was good at blowing his own trumpet so the lack of information isn't bothering me.
Of course I would love to see him back in a competitive F1 car in 2013 or even 2014. I believe teams would still jump to have such natural talent, his 'below par' form (being out of the loop) would still be higher than a lot of drivers best.

OK, I am not playing armchair surgeon with this comment, I happen to have been talking to someone with first hand experience in treating this sort of injury and asked them about it. As has been said already, every injury of this type is different, even the slightest difference in the injury and cause can make a vast difference to the recovery, so anyone who wants a definitive timeline put on the recovery is never going to get what they want.

Apparently, the way that doctors put a recovery timeline on this type of injury is that when the patient reaches a specific point in return of movement/strength etc the doctor will say it took them x months to get this far, IF this rate of recovery continues thn it will take another x months to be where the patient wants to be. And that is a big if in that statment for a reason. Muscular recovery will be a different speed to skeletal recovery which again will be a different rate to nervous recovery and so on. So Robert may have recovered the muscular strength, but his bones may need more time to heal properly and not be weak around the existing breaks (as it currently looks like). He may have recovered use of his hand and full control of the movement, but that doesn't mean he can feel anything, or even the right things, at the current point.

Even the individual is no guide to recovery rate. I have seen athletes be stretchered off with seperated biceps, and be back competing in strength based sports within a few weeks, but the same athlete may take over a year to recover from rotorcuff surgery which in comparison is relatively minor. The whole point is Robert needs time to heal, it is obvious from what has been said the last few days that the bones are still weak around the existing fractures, and this will need time to recover from again. The only time that we will be able to say for certain "he will be back in a car" will be the day he sits in the car and drives it.

Kubica is very shy, he's like Kimi Raikkonen

I know this thread has taken a troubled turn but that made me laugh Sly describing Kimi as shy! tell that to the podium dancer he's throwing money at! lol. I know I've taken it out of context though dude - you meant keeps out the media.

As for Mr Kubica's condition I've been staying out of it since I passed an opinion and someone thought that I was actually a surgeon who'd examined him and was giving my diagnosis and I had to release an official statement saying that I wasn't a doctor.

As for the other stuff I don't think anyone was throwing insults around just suggesting that everything is conjecture and that we're all sitting on our arm chairs guessing. As for 'inner clique' - isn't that some device Ron had them fit on the MP4-26?
