Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

It saddens me that we never get the truth on his situation, all we get is contrasting information.

I highly doubt he will be back now, I think if he doesn't F1 has lost a great talent. He did seem unlucky with a lot of things in his career. BMW stopping development (or bringing upgrades that didn't work - so I've heard), then not getting a top seat in the 2009 silly season, then his crash when he and his team looked strong for the 2011 season.

Yet another setback for his recovery.Makes me wonder if his bones are rather fragile after his injuries.
He does seem to suffer many broken bones in his life.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96958 Robert Kubica has injured his leg in a fall near his home, with sources close to the Polish driver suggesting that he has reopened a fracture that he sustained in his rally accident last year.
It is understood that Kubica fell over on ice in Pietrasanta, where he lives, and subsequently complained of pain in the right leg which was broken in his crash. He was driven to the local hospital for checks.
Although there has been no official statement, it is understood that it has been found that Kubica has reopened the fracture in his right tibia.

I do live in a country where icy pavements and paths are the norm in winter. It is unusual for people who do slip over here and many many do to break a leg.
Broken arms and collarbones are a fairly regular result of these falls.

Sadly, I thought this was the case as soon as the news of the gravity of his injuries was publicised.
Shame.
I'm with you, Ceri, this just seems to be the cherry on top. A shame in that not only was he a good talent but he also wasn't too full of himself.

Completely gutted at the news Robert Kubica has broken his leg again. I can honestly say hand on heart that we won't see him back in F1 again. What a waste of good talent we've lost in F1.

I don't see why this development should suddenly close the door on Kubica's return, sure it'll delay it by at least 3 weeks, probably months but he's nearly just as likely to return as he ever was. So not very likely then...:disappointed:

Three weeks.:oFor a broken leg.Its been a year since he broke it in the crash.
http://www.physioroom.com/injuries/calf_and_shin/tibia_fibula_fracture_full.php The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks. This is followed by rehabilitation with a Chartered Physiotherapist to restore the range of ankle and knee movement, and to restore the muscle strength that is lost during the immobilisation period. Depending on the fracture type and its location the orthopaedic doctor may allow the use of a Removable Plastic Cast Walker instead of a plaster cast.

I think thats Kubica finished unless he makes a bigger comeback than Lauda .... I mean Lazarus

The longer you are out of F1 the more race rusty you will get and lose that sharpness..so the only way he will get back into F1 is if one of the lesser teams take a gamble on him

Lotus might depending what happens with Kimi

Williams would be a good place to come back

So would Sauber

He has been truly shafted by BMW back in 2008 and some respect Fernando Alonso who denied him the chance to join Ferrari

It definitely rules out him coming back this year and by that time he will have been out of F1, and out of driving, for two years. If he has no further set-backs, his injuries heal well and he retains most of his former speed I think he probably could find his way back in to F1 (he's young enough) but those are three big ifs. At the very least, if he gets back to being able to drive you'd think one of the teams would give him an old car to play around with and see what he can do.

I only said three weeks because I read on Autosport that he had re-opened the fracture in his leg, not fully broken it. I could be wrong about that though.

I am very sceptical that he will ever return to F1.Much of this is due to the very severe injuries that he suffered and also the complete lack of first hand news from Kubica himself.
Since his accident I can only recall seeing one pic of him that was snapped by someone on a mobile phone.
He has as far as I am aware never given any press interviews or had any photographs taken.
In short nothing.
Way back in 1969 when Graham Hill broke both his legs at Watkns Glen during his recuperation period he gave television interviews even though he still needed sticks to walk with.
Nicki Lauda as burned and disfigured as he was still allowed photographs and gave press interviews.
As did Michael Scumacher.
The silence from the Kubica camp is deafening and the lack of first hand information from Kubica himself including lack of photographs only confirms my opinion.
