Head To Head Nico Rosberg vs Lewis Hamilton

Black strip for LH is going on.
There is third qual fail in a row.
And again LH show quick sectors in the practices, Q1 and Q3 but fault in Q3.
Need to change something to get back in the title race.

Totally agree, IMO Hamilton was quicker this weekend and qualifying gave him a big mountain to climb. It's because of his great first lap that he got second, but it's also because of the pit stops - 2 and a half seconds slower?? - that he couldn't race for the win. Webber leapt onto this straight away, Merc need to understand why Hamilton is slower by so much. It's irrelevant whose fault it is, clearly some tweak is needed.

Hamilton missed his marks on the 1st stop and the second stop was delayed by small damage to the brake cooling

Splendid drives today by the Merc' chaps and a very good result for both of them and the team. 3rd to 1st and 9th to 2nd was damage elimination - a bit better than just than damage limitation.

The brake issues that seem to affect all of the teams to a greater or lesser extent require all the drivers to moderate their braking. That must be a real pain for the late hard brakers like Hamilton and Alonso who may be compromised a bit more than others. Hamilton's first pit stop was probably more costly than then the second one as he had to battle with Bottas. Had that not been the case he would have had a lot more time to work on Rosberg. However, with both cars being virtually identical Lewis needed to be able to trust the brakes for any successful attack. Without a fairly big mistake from Nico he had little chance of passing him today so Lewis has lived to fight another day.

Things can turn at the drop of a hat - or wheel nut - in F1 and we've seen bigger points gaps blown away many times in the past. For Nico, he has yet to have his Murphy moments so his lead isn't cast in concrete. For Lewis, the season isn't yet quite half-way and he had a big Murphy moment last year at Silverstone - surely he's due for good showing at his home GP. For us, we can be sure there's a lot more entertainment and probably some surprises to come from these two blokes.

We saw Hamilton winning when Rosberg was quicker, today we saw Rosberg win when Hamilton was faster. Basically today the race went with the qualifying performances.

One thing that seems to have disappeared is that of the two drivers being on different tyre strategies. This is what was giving the exciting finishes ; maybe Mercedes are being more cautious now that the pack are beginning to catch them.

But isn't that what it is meant to do?

I must say that I liked the message of congratulations to Dieter Maschewitz that was shown towards the end of the race. I presume it was in getting the race run rather than for the performance of the Red Bull cars on the day.

So far this year we have seen Lewis using less fuel than Nico. Is there a way that Lewis can run quicker for longer so the fuel is used up? Surely he is carrying the extra weight for nothing otherwise.
I was wondering about that. Presumably Hamilton's car carries less fuel from the start now? That would seem the logical thing to do to gain the maximum benefit from his frugality.
