Actually, that is a great idea...host a qualifying race for the last 6 or so spots on the grid. Run the race on Saturday. This would give the backmarkers a chance to show their stuff in a competitive environment.

Lots you could do for the show if you can more teams and drivers participating.

Add in prize money for top spots too and you're funding you provide a source of income for your smaller teams too.

You could even have top 3 but 4 to 6 get an extra days testing.

It would be far too costly to have more F1 cars than you will allow to race.
How about Q1 includes the 6 fastest cars from F2 qualifying and if they qualify then they race? Their points are calculated vs only the other F2 cars in the race and they don't compete in the F2 race(s).
