Current Lewis Hamilton

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

Cant help but feel it was possibly Hamiltons pop factor management company that McLaren didn’t like that caused any visible frictions between Hamilton and McLaren rather than McLaren just falling out of love with Hamilton in favour of Button.

Not basing that on anything, just a feeling I have.

See I never get the reason people argue the diff between thirty mil and forty mil. Its almost impossible to spend that much money personally anyway so what difference does it make? Its not like the argument would be "sorry got to have that extra ten million otherwise my budget is going to be tight as......and Nicole hardly brings in anything and its not like my dads a succesful business man"

if the deals been done because of more money then its been done by the agents not Lewis because when you have that much cash I just can't see him honestly caring.

I don't think it is about McLaren either
Just seemed to be Whitmarsh...since JB arrived with No1 on his car..
Martin has tried to justify his driver choice on many occasions.....he didn't need to
IMO seems as if....he wanted JB to be in front of LH....& it's all gone sour
Turkey 2010 was a very clear indicatator...& it has just rumbled on..
To the detriment of LH WDC hopes & Macca WCCs

RasputinLives... I think it is the difference between 36MM (and any bonuses) and a potential 100MM...I would be quite happy with a 2 or 3 of those... let me live off the dividends and go to most races for the rest of my life... to many zero's and my head starts to hurt... but I agree with you... how much is enough...

You could look at the catfight over LH "market-rights" through the prism of being sick and tired of the control McLaren had over his life after 14 years... and ultimately perhaps that was why he joined up the Fullers outfit knowing that is what they negotiate hard for...

If he starts partying again, it could all go tits up.

Let's hope he takes this opportunity to show what he can do and rise to the challenge that he has said he was looking for.

Any chance we can have the following poll about the move:

Are you shocked about the move because:
a) didnt think he would leave Mclaren
b) didnt think he would join a team that isnt likely to be the fastest
c) it was EJ that told us it would happen

Brogan thanks - i was just feeling a little flipant. As it was EJ that said it few weeks ago I didnt take it seriously. He clearly has a lot of people feeding him info on the quiet for it not to have been picked up by other sources.

I have to say when I saw the news today and I was a little shocked and saddened. I'm a massive Hamilton/McLaren fan. It was this pairing which really developed my interest in the sport, now it's over (for now at least).

When I think of Hamilton I think of McLaren and vice versa. Many people also think that Hamilton has been at McLaren since he was 13, yet he really only funded by them from that age. He probably didn't have that much personal interaction with people from McLaren until he was progressing through F3 and GP2. Still he has been with the team for over 100 Grand Prix (it will be 109 by the end of 2012) and is second in the appearances list for McLaren (David Coulthard is first), he knows the team and has dealt with some members of the race team (Phil Prew for example) since is debut season.

However I remain loyal to both McLaren and Hamilton. I think we know McLaren will be alright, they have Button, Perez and proven design team. The real question mark hangs over Hamilton. I wonder if I'll look back at his F1 seasons and wonder what might have been, I suspect it may be the case of wrong car wrong time for him. Fundamentally there's nothing wrong with Mercedes, they has the money, the brains and in 2014 they will be a factory team which should offer numerous advantages with the new engine regulations coming in. I sincerely hope we won't see Hamilton spending his years stuck in the high midfield void Mercedes have found themselves in.

It's a gamble, but then so was Schumacher's move to Ferrari...
