One saving grace is that as this potentially mindblowing season gets nearer, the less we know the more tension will have been built up...:snacks:

It's very Tantric.

Tantric - that's the one where once it starts getting good you go off and do something else for a while, isn't it?

As opposed to last season where I would go off and do something else when it got boring :(

It's a rule that's been quietly forgotten in the last couple of years since it's not really been needed but I wonder If we will see a return to the 107 percent qualifying rule??

Interesting article on the wet tyre they were using yesterday.

Concerns over Bridgestone's new intermediate tyre were raised after a wet opening day of testing in Jerez on Wednesday.

The bad weather at the Spanish circuit meant teams had their first chance to try the new intermediate, to be raced during the 2010 season. However, some reports revealed that the tyre wore out too quickly and lost around 2-3 seconds of time per lap at a very early stage.

I don't think so c_a_t.
Wasn't the main purpose of that rule to limit the number of entries when there were too many for the grid?

Wasn't the main purpose of that rule to limit the number of entries when there were too many for the grid?

Nah, it was introduced about 10 years ago to encourage those at the back to push harder towards the front end of the grid. Pre-qualifying hasn't been seen in F1 since 1994.

I always thought that the 107 percent rule was a reasonable idea but many teams appealed every time they failed to make the target time and were allowed to race any way.

It wouldn't be that encouraging to new teams that have gone out on a limb to enter the sport, paying millions for the privilege of not qualifying for the race.

Well as far as I'm aware it's still in the rule books so we need a quick FIA clarification to take it out.

EDIT - Forget everything I just said. The 107 percent rule was binned when the new qually format (by knockout) was introduced a few years back.

:embarrassed:
