Jenson Button

Arguably the best ever driver in mixed conditions, all his wins at Mclaren have come in those conditions. His last race win in the dry came at the 2009 Turkish GP.

Button is known for his smooth driving style and is normally seen in must races doing one less stop than his rivals for tyres.

Buttons also know to be a bit of a practical joker and will take part in anything fun.

Since his debut in 2000 Button has won the majority of hearts in this country. But what is your favourite JB win?

Mine has to be Hungaroring 2006, in argubly a midfield team and he won the race in those mixed conditions to take his first win. I can remember James Allen been in tears almost and that was the first race Anthony Davidson ever commentated on.

If this is true, and I hope it is, Isn't it typical of McLaren. Everything is so bloody clinical. One of the reasons Ron Dennis supposedly favoured Magnussen was because data suggested he was quicker. I wonder if he thought of looking at the win ratio. It just might have made the decision a little easier. Sometimes a little passion over statistics and data is appealing.

Fuck the data it is results that count, so Maggers may have been a bit quicker in this corner or that corner but the fact is Jenson completely trounced him in the racing department and out qualified him overall.

On paper Hamilton is a quicker driver than Jenson but Lewis had his hands full containing him and he was outscored by him in the three year partnership, maybe that is what got up Ron's hooter..

It's make or break year for both Seb and Fernando. Both have moved to teams where they have experienced former world champion team mates who's pace and commitment has been questioned from various quarters. If they both fail to measure up against these two then their reputations will take a massive knock.

I'm guessing, if Button is confirmed that it's going to be a one year deal (maybe at the outside, 1 with a 1 year option) but at least now he can have a proper going out season.

I think it's the right call for this season when development and experience will be crucial to getting the Honda / McLaren partnership up and running.

cider_and_toast ...... It may be a make or break year for Vettel. When you consider how Alonso compared with Kimi, Vettel needs to do the same. I think he'll struggle in his new environment. So far he also hasn't shown to be very adaptable to rule changes.
As far as it being a make or break year for Alonso. not at all. For those who will interpret that as being me being unable to criticise Alonso, he has nothing to prove, in fact I'm surprised some people believe he still has. His historical record says it all. He has won driving for three different teams. Two titles for Renault, three times runner-up for Ferrari as well as numerous GP wins for McLaren. He has driven through a multitude of rule changes seamlessly, from V10's and V8's through to the current formula and has got the very best from every car that he's driven, including the bad ones. I have no doubt he will do the same for the McLaren/Honda.

Kewee, careers are built over years, reputations are destroyed in minutes.

Alonso took a huge gamble leaving Ferrari to go to a team who have been going through a longer performance decline. His new team mate is at least as strong a driver as Kimi but maybe with more of a point to prove and one who has a lot of support within McLaren.

How quickly do you think Alonso's detractors will raise the ghosts of 2007 and say he is all washed up if he can't perform with this car?

Button, I believe, may be long in years but will provide a whole new test for Alonso. The potential issue of Jense and Ron and Ron and Alonso could lead to a trying year for everyone if Alonso and Jenson can't work together.

cider_and_toast ..... 2007 is a long long time ago. I'm not even going to go through the growing up explanations again. Alonso and Button are similar ages and will get on very well. Ron Dennis, McLaren and Alonso will have learnt a great deal from 2007, insiders at McLaren have already acknowledged they also handled 2007 very badly, they recognised there was fault on both sides and both parties will start their new relationship with greater understanding. All parties including Button will be conscious they are together with the aim of winning titles. I've said some time ago, Alonso won't fear any driver regardless of who he's paired with, Button will probably be his biggest test so far but I have no doubt who will come out on top. I'm going to love the new season, my two favourite drivers going head to head in the same car. They will both realise they have to work together to beat Mercedes and there will be at least two other teams that could be a threat.

By the way cider_and_toast, your right about reputations being destroyed in minutes, but in Alonso's case, of the three top teams he's driven for Renault, McLaren and Ferrari two have welcomed him back and one of those is paying an enormous salary for his significant skills. He also left Ferrari on very good terms so his reputation is very much intact with everyone he's ever been associated with. One other point, Ron Dennis rates Alonso's technical skills and his ability to communicate with the teams engineers very highly.

I wonder how much Button will enjoy 2015, working with a very disgruntled Ron Dennis and an extremely competitive Alonso.

I also wonder what excuse Ron Dennis will find to run his reserve driver?

Signed for two years or McLaren have an option for a second? There is a significant difference.

Anyway, I bet Martin Whitwarsh is happy, he'll still be able to see his special one on TV every other weekend.

Is that two full years or 1 with an option for 1 more?

I Really didn't expect a full two year contract. I think he may have settled for a one year deal but two years tends to suggest the team really did want to keep him.

EDIT FB great minds think alike :D
