Jenson Button

Arguably the best ever driver in mixed conditions, all his wins at Mclaren have come in those conditions. His last race win in the dry came at the 2009 Turkish GP.

Button is known for his smooth driving style and is normally seen in must races doing one less stop than his rivals for tyres.

Buttons also know to be a bit of a practical joker and will take part in anything fun.

Since his debut in 2000 Button has won the majority of hearts in this country. But what is your favourite JB win?

Mine has to be Hungaroring 2006, in argubly a midfield team and he won the race in those mixed conditions to take his first win. I can remember James Allen been in tears almost and that was the first race Anthony Davidson ever commentated on.

I'm fairly sure that last week Whitmarsh was talking about Button seeing out his career at McLaren; i.e. that's what Whitmarsh wanted.

Very convenient timing for this nugget to leak out. So it must be Whitmarsh who is delaying and JB needing to put the pressure on.

I'm sure staying at Woking for the rest of his career is Button's preferred option. Maybe the team are reluctant to commit for too long - do they expect another top driver to become available in the next couple of years? Or just keeping their options open? Hmm....

If you're referring to the BBC Forum interview, I took that comment to mean that 4-5 years from now, McLaren can't be sure that Jenson will be a top echelon driver so they don't want to lock somebody in for that long because the sponsors expect a top driver in the seat.

I have to say I'd love to see Button in a Ferrari but I did kind of think they had Perez lined up to replace Massa. Maybe they think its too early for Perez and think Button can fill the gap. I think 99.9% of drivers would take the chance of driving for Ferrari if they could. Unexpected though I thought Jenson would hang in there at Mclaren.

As for Mclaren - haven't they always been interested in Nico Rosberg?

It's getting smokey and you know what they say about smoke.

Imagine next year like this:

Lewis, Nico @ McLaren
Jenson, Alonso @ Ferrari
Vettel, Massa @ Red Bull

I can see all of them Ninja apart from Massa at Red Bull - it'll be Webber or Ricciardo

Imagine this for 2013

Vettel, Lewis @ Red Bull
Jenson, Alonso @ Ferrari
Rosberg, Kobi @ Mclaren
Hulkenberg, Di Resta @ Mercedes

I believe a certain Paul DiResta is a dead cert in a Mercedes seat within 2 years tops. If Jenson leaves McLaren for Ferrari then I can quite believe a line-up as follows:

McLaren - Hamilton/Rosberg
Ferrari - Alonso/Button
Mercedes - ????/DiResta

But really...if Rosberg wanted to go then his dad couldn't stop him, surely? Nico is a grown man for goodness sake! You're right, off topic but slightly related to the rumour mongering of a Button move to Ferrari, which would incidently be a huge disappointment to me. I just absolutely cannot stand that team. Irrational, I know, but true nonetheless.

If Button really wants to go to Ferrari in 2013 then I'd tell him good luck, and have fun finding a drive for next year. I'd rather have Paffett in the seat anyway.

Its got to be just a rumour, if it was fact that he wants a one year deal to keep an chance for a Ferrari seat for 2013 then if I were Mclaren id offer I very tiny sum of money for next year. Maybe they are and that’s the sticking point, maybe they’re only offering good money for more than one season.
