Indy Car and general US Motorsports

interesting watching the IndyCar qualifying we have a comparsion to F1 & IndyCar, it seems that IndyCar might even me a few seconds slower than a F2 car. as Hamilton was on pole with a 1:32.2 & Rosenquist in Q2 not the pole session did a 1:45.5, also lewis had average lap speed of 133.44mph & Rosenquist was 116.62mph
 
In the race you will see another interesting comparison: there will probably be more true competition, wheel-to-wheel racing, and lead changes in the one race than you get in the entire F1 season.

You could never notice the difference in lap times by watching the races. Competition is more important than lap times, at least to me.

Seems to be an interesting time for me to start watching Indy as looks like a bit of a changing of the guard happening with a lot of young talent coming through. Colton Herta is youngest Indy Car winner ever. Got lucky with the SC but I guess that's just racing. Will Power not happy.

By the way I thought F1 was bad with track limits but blimey.
 
only got around to watching yesterday but I know them bloody track limits. really annoyed me at the penultimate corner because if they wanted cars to go there then track wouldve been built there. but there was no such thing as track limits on that race but that wasnt the only odd rule. how did Hinchcliffe get away with that on Rosenquist. punted him out & ruined victim race, also the top 2 that got caught out

colton herta was quite good impressed the paddock in st pete, the mechanics love him, the pre race stat "best finish" made me laugh it was his only finish, then wins in his 2nd race as a 18yr old rookie. yeah he got fortunate but always 2nd or 3rd at no point was he going to drop off the podium. maybe when we always talking about who is the American driver to be in F1 its early days but this guy with 2 or 3 yrs in IndyCar might be the 1.
 
So watched my third Indy Car race and I am starting to get into it now. I'm not blown away by the racing but it is interesting stuff. Having Sato and Bourdais on the podium this time out does make me wonder about the quality of the field but I think most people are aware of that.

Rosenqvist seems to have gone backwards with Ericsson coming on strong. Not what I thought would happen. Always enjoyed seeing Jack Harvey race in junior formula so hoping he does well in Indy Car. Its not happening yet though.
 
yeah that race was nothing special like an average F1 race that id probally give a 5 for. yeah I would say if it happens next week then maybe Rosenquist is a worry but he was taken out while in 7th in COTA & then struggled for pace in barber but then a lot of drivers stuggled for pace, Power, Hunter reay & pagenuad all struggled. I think it was more down to set up he just had alot of oversteer

but still I like IndyCar & looking forward to long beach on sunday
 
Right, I'm caught up. I'm enjoying the season but I'm glad I'm getting it free; I watch the races after the event and while doing other things, much as I should for F1 but haven't got to that point yet!

Back in the 1980s and early 1990s it was a so much better series. It is kind of pale shadow of what it used to be. I really don't watch it any more. I used to.
 
bye bye alonso bumped from the indy 500 in 34th by 0.02mph. trying to figure who is more upset alonso or sky f1 bosses who bought the rights for alonso in indy 500

but you have to wonder if Alonso & McLaren will part ways completely. as since 2015 it been disaster after disaster. if he goes with American knowledge go with ganassi or penske & he can get there

Quite why McLaren decided to distract themselves developing a works Indy 500 entry for Alonso is a mystery when they could have saved a lot of time and effort and do what they did last year and run an off the shelf car from one of the bigger teams.

Anyway, it's quite funny so that's a bonus

because common sense & McLaren the last 4 years has been sorely lacking
 
When was the last time an F1 team entered Indy with their own works entrant?

I know Team Lotus and Ferrari both designed works entrants in the mid 80's but neither raced.

I'm not sure that I'd count whatever the Lotus car companies entrants were supposed to be because I don't think anyone was ever sure if they were sponsors or entrants.

I guess you would have to go back to the 70's
 
i dont get why they would technical partner up with carlin 2 teams that are rookies at indy 500. surely thats blind leading the blind espically as bottom 3 were alonso & 2 carlins. they certainly too over confident after nearly winning 1st up

proof things can always get worse espically if your alonso driving for mclaren. as even his miracles couldnt save them this time. this is on a scale of huge incompetence. that I cant think has been equaled recently
