Engine & Gearbox Usage #12 - Spa-Francorchamps

I have not posted anything on this topic since Istanbul, mostly because the precise
engines used continues to be unknown and some of my earlier assumptions were
not correct.

However, as the season nears the sharp end, the infoi, such as it is, is likely to be
more and more useful.

Firstly here is a log of engine changes as recorded by Joe Bauer, the FIA Technical Delegate, and
published in his Technical Report after each event.

We could assume that once a new engine is introduced, the driver continues to ues that engine
for several consecutive events. However, that assumption might not be correct. This table
assumes that it is correct, so should be examined with caution.

We can assume that engines which 'failed' will not be used subsequently, although it seems
that Mark Webber's engine from Spa, may still be usable.

And here's similar data for gearbox usage:

The same 4-event rule still applies, drivers must use the same gearbox for four consecutive
events. Any forced gearbox changes will result in a 5-place grid penalty at that event. Drivers
who fail to finish a race are able to change gearboxes at the next event without penalty.
