I was aware of Renault and Williams having problems and spending a lot of time in the pits. But I had no idea it had affected their test mileage so drastically. I remember vividly Barrichello completing hundreds of laps in a day, funny how the mind plays tricks.

It actually puts McLarens woeful winter testing into some sort of perspective... They test like an also ran.

Compare that with the unflattering but unflustered and methodical way Mercedes pursued their reliability and performance. It is little wonder that Mercedes found their target before the season starts and Mclaren will spend most of it playing catch up.

And the twaddle about running last years car and getting an understanding the tyres is contemptible and self delusional.

They need a big shake up at McLaren, and soon.

Williams' running was ok, they were badly hampered for the first couple of days at Jerez, then again in the first and last days of the final test (the latter being weather-affected of course).

If you do it on mean km per day of testing, allowing for the late arrival of certain cars, it comes out as:

I also wonder how much of their GP team have gone off designing tongue twisting MP4-12C's and the such.

And with all the talk of evolution over revolution up and down the grid, why did they decide that the 'good' car they had last year needed binning for an entirely new concept?

So many questions, however another straw to clutch: Remember 09? Well how could we forget those depressing first races for the great McL... well Hamilton was the highest scorer of the 2nd half of that season. Ahead of the Brawns, ahead of the RBs.... a tiny thread of hope pointing towards their development potential when they really club together...

OK I've just got some clarification on exhausts and materials from Sam Michael and its not good for McLaren

Sam Michael "Any ducting that is used to "pipe" hot exhaust gas through the car is classified as exhaust

Sam Michael "so it must be made from the permitted materials list" and Pyrosic is not on the list

So McLaren cannot beat the 2-outlet rule and cannot make the chamber from ceramic carbon fibre (Pyrosic)

So either; there's been a clarification on the rules preventing this system being used, or the Autosport article wasn't accurate.
