Grand Prix 2013 Italian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Sebastian Vettel is unstoppable.
He is leading Alonso by 46 points in the championship, with some of his most successful circuits to come.
After convincingly winning at Spa (supposedly one of his weaker circuits) we move on to Monza (another of his supposedly weak circuits) for the 12th round of the season, the Italian Grand Prix. The Monza circuit, set in a royal park, has hosted the Italian Grand Prix every year except for 1980. It is vastly different from every other circuit in the calendar, requiring minimum downforce, minimum drag and a lot of horses in the engine. As it is Fewwawi's home circuit, they will be under immense pressure from the Tifosi to perform well, and, judging by their Alonso's performance at Spa, the team may as well be in a good position going into the race.

Monza is steeped in tradition, with the traditional cantilever grandstands, the traditionally vocal fans and the traditional surroundings. It is usually a place where many major driver announcements are traditionally made, as it is traditionally the last European race of the season. Of course, Ferrari & McLaren traditionally do well here, and Red Bull traditionally do not.

Last year, Lewis Hamilton strolled through the race weekend, winning convincingly, and Sergio Perez took a quite brilliant second place in his Sauber, with the Fewwawi's third and fourth. Red Bull did not score.

The weather is usually a predictable affair - there have only been three wet/varied races since 1950 (1981, 2004 & 2008) so expect it to be warm and sunny. The tight first chicane, however, leaves potential for first lap incident.

Remember, the race is live on both the BBC and Sky in two weeks, so British fans - no excuse for missing it!!!

All that remains for me to say is Ready, Steady, Discuss!!!

Yes, Red Bull have definitely found something extra in the past couple of races.
Vettel actually had higher top speed than Alonso ihe pit-straight.

Traditionally Red Bull always put the emphasis on downforce but as we also saw at Spa, they appear to have found a way of running tiny rear wing flaps that suddenly makes them very quick in the straights AND YET the car still generates enough natural downforce for Vettel to have been so quick at sector 2 in Belgium a fortnight ag

This must be utterly de-moralising for their opposition. They're doing everything they can to catch up with the 'Bulls, and what is actually happening is that Red Bull instead appear to have eliminated their one weakness i.e straightline speed.

If Vettel wins here, of all places, it'll be game well and trully over, and not just because of the points situation....

Well Hamilton ballsed that up... and that's not the first time Sutil has done something immature this season.

Or Sutil ballsed it up for him! Still could have been worse he could have glassed him!

Hey Adrian can I remind you who your teams engine supplier is? Once is forgiven, twice will not be. Say goodbye to your drive next year and you won't even have DTM to fall back on.

Still at least it means Hulkenberg will have a seat next year.

Lets not jump the gun and wait for the stewards. They are always spot on right?

That said had he not ****ed up the first run then he wouldn't have been in that position. He wasn't going that quickly up to that point either on his final lap.

Go Nico!!!!

Goodness, Hamilton sounds really positive NOT! In his interview, when asked about getting a good place anyway, his reply...
" I don't see it "
The black cloud is back sitting above his head.

Well how boring is the race going to be. Unless.... Webber gets by finger boy, or just drives into him at the start.

Awesome lap from Hulkenberg! We so need to get him in top car.

Does mean the race has a pretty predictable though as Webber will fluff the start with Hulkenberg going up to second with everyone stuck behind him for about half a dozen laps. Meanwhile Vettel will be 10 seconds up the road before they get after him.

Then hopefully the rain will fall....just after Vettel goes past the pit lane and muck it all up......although even then Seb would win.

Really? I love a race where people are out of position. Vettel may well run away at the front but I think we're in for a treat tomorrow from second place onwards.

Oops, the Ferrari shenanegins have got Massa ahead of Alonso.

Does anyone remember anything like that toeing mallarkey ever actually working for anyone?
Surely the sheer amount of preperation to get the absolute right distance between cars at any part of the track has to take something away from the concentration required to, well, just do your own lap basically?
