Now we just have to hope the FIA doesn't ram it through anyway.

If they don't then I wouldn't expect to see this monstrosity ever again. If it was a good solution it would have been adapted for 2017.

So I hope I'm reading through the lines of this message buried with other communications from F1, in that they are still looking at solutions for 2018 but they couldn't be for shamed on bolting the Halo monstrosity on to the 2017 new F1 sexy models as it would make F1 look even more a joke than it already is.

Question, have they made F1 so restrictive today, that engineers have forgot how to be innovative in designing a solution?

    I don't think much of Seb's maths skills because 17 out of 22 isn't 95% LOL

They'll change their minds soon. If the radio ban is anything to go by.

According to Palmer there was no vote taken at the driver's meeting so maybe Vettel decided that since all statistics are lies he would do it his way.

Looking at that, I don't see how that prevents much.

At least drivers are restricted exiting the car unlike the Halo.

It would stop a Massa type forgein object impact. Not sure it would do anything for a stray tyre or tractor.

Visibilty in rain would be interesting.

Well they rarely drive in the rain so that probably won't be an issue.

Just another possible solution, not THE solution.

I don't understand how a driver could see through that without loads of distortion.

Either enclose the cockpit and put wipers on the screen or stop pissing about.

If they want safe racing there's always X-box.

These guys race cars at ridiculous speed for the adrenaline rush; let them get on with it and accept the occasional accident.

When I was younger I was a fearless ****er and had no time for anyone who told me I'd kill myself if I carried on.

Now I'm older with responsibilities and boring.
    But I won't forget how I was.
And I won't deny the young to have a go too.

Given Massa's longevity in F1 you could argue that getting hit by that spring actually helped.

I always thought F1 was an open cockpit class, or am I missing something. Motor racing is dangerous and although improved safety is commendable do we have to sterilise it completely.

Open wheel is the important part. Enclosed cockpits would have no effect on racing and are fine by me. But it needs to work and look good.
