A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

As for the subject at hand, I find the interaction of drivers with the media an interesting one but general mud chucking in a Hamilton direction to be a fairly pointless exercise. I haven't got much time for him but he is what he is.

Hamberg... at the time Kimi was driving for McLaren, and don't you think that Ron Dennis wasn't thinking about the reaction of his sponsors to Kimi's. comments. I think that Dennis was would have been very concerned.

aaron8831...If Lewis would have responded in that situation, exactly the same way that Kimi had. It definitely wouldn't have been referred to as being iconic, but an excuse for some to call for his expulsion from the sport.

Let's not turn this into an everyone's out to get Lewis thing. He was playing on his phone at work. Don't tell me you haven't worked with someone who has done that and it hasn't effed you off.

Do we need to vilify him for it? NO! Is it a dick thing to do? YES! (We have all done it though).

I haven' t. Never dd anything as childchish as that at work.

I did however on a fairly frequent basis use to hold a lighter up to the smoke alarm in the toilet to trigger a fire alarm so that everyone in the building could enjoy a bit of a 20 minute-break. Much more mature.

He does connect with his fans he does post alot with fans on the Snapchat as i saw during Malaysia. Ive watched all his clips he must have been on for a few mins not the 30 mins mentioned As i put above let's compare the last 2 world champions.

Vettel won in November did the race of champions & went into hiding til he came back for preseason in march

Lewis Hamilton won the title. Did a few radio interviews, did 3 tv chat shows & in a magazines. Dont want to be to impartial but who else gets f1 in the media outside of a race weekend

Hamilton was the World Champion and we know what media stuff he did because he's British and was in the British media.

Vettel won a few races but was hoping for more. Also, he leads a different lifestyle to Hamilton. How do you know that Vettel didn't do some media stuff in Germany or Italy?

Racing drivers like to race, talking to the media doesn't really have a great deal to do with racing. ( In the head of a racing driver )
I have no idea, I wasn't around, but did the likes of Fangio have to endure sitting behind a desk and answering stilted questions ?
I imagine that he would have answered questions from the press out on track and in passing, a much more natural process.

& is why i research it 1st. Because i thought before i post. Lets make sure im informed before i say something i could only find 3 things since he joined the senior ref bull 7 years ago 1 was some german chat show in july 2011, then david letterman & top gear in july 2012.

Again let's cut the guff. Is being on Snapchat when you should be working right? No, you get caught and you get bollocked. Does it mean we should question someone's whole personality? No. Hamilton does no more or no less when it comes to interacting with fans.

As for drivers not enjoying press conferences. It goes with the job and the job brings masses of upsides so sucked it up for the bad ones. You pays your money you takes your choc ice.

Part of his job as a racing driver is to help maximise the image of F1. It is that which pays his extremely high wages, something which he should not need telling. The media have a lot of influence, if their input is just to receive press handouts from the teams and associated organisations their interest will wane; they need to talk to people first hand.

We all know that what is presented is a load of twaddle but that is what the public is interested in; on the Beeb's live reporting they have been getting the public to say what questions they would like to ask the drivers, many of these are a load of garbage as you might expect. Not everyone who is a casual F1 follower is knowledgeable so the press reflect this. The drivers should bear this in mind.

If the cost of the average Mercedes car is around £30,000 (I've no idea how much they are but that would seem about right) and 100 would be customers change their minds because people are being nasty to 'ickle hammy wammy' then that's just cost the company £3 million in sales.

No wonder they'd very much like it if he played ball and played the corporate game.

It is a rather colossal dummy-spit, frankly. No doubt we'll get a "de-hurtful retraction" from his Hamness in a day or two.
