Weather in Hungary

As for Jaime Unspellable, again it's early doors but will we be asking ourselves come sunday evening weather it was worth it to give Bourdais his marching orders. I wonder if Renault are taking note after the speculation surrounding PKs future.

argy (new nickname for jaime whoever that i just made up :) ) wont do much more then bourdais. so why this change, is just not clear to me. the kid will take soem time to get used to f1 and by then the season will be pretty much over.

It would seem Renault have quietly made the biggest improvement with Fernando Alonso scoring his first pole position of the season.

Less than [sup]3[/sup]/[sub]10[/sub] separating the first 5 places!

Fuel loads should be interesting when they're published in a few hours.

Thankfully Felipe is OK but it was a very nasty accident and could have been a lot worse.
I dread to think what would have happened if the metal piece had struck his visor instead of the side of his helmet.

Brawn will be worried about reliability now and wondering how a piece of the rear suspension could just fall off the car without any apparent damage.

Piquet didn't deliver when it counted, failing even to get through to Q3.
Are Renault going to do a Toro Rosso before the European GP and replace him with Grosjean?

The good news is Massa is stable and conscious in hospital.
The bad news is he will miss the GP tomorrow.

Looks like Alonso went for the glory run ROFL
Lightest driver on the grid by far...

Fuel adjusted I expect he's somewhere around P10.

Q Pos. Driver Weight Fuel (kg) Laps
1 Fernando Alonso 637.5 32.5 13
2 Sebastian Vettel 655.0 50.0 22
3 Mark Webber 652.0 47.0 20
4 Lewis Hamilton 650.5 45.5 19
5 Nico Rosberg 654.0 49.0 21
6 Heikki Kovalainen 655.5 50.5 22
7 Kimi Raikkonen 651.5 46.5 20
8 Jenson Button 664.5 59.5 26
9 Kazuki Nakajima 658.0 53.0 23
10 Felipe Massa
11 Sebastien Buemi 671.5 66.5 29
12 Jarno Trulli 671.3 66.3 29
13 Rubens Barrichello 689.0 84.0 37
14 Timo Glock 679.2 74.2 33
15 Nelson Piquet Jnr 667.7 62.7 27
16 Nick Heidfeld 658.0 53.0 23

18 Adrian Sutil 683.5 78.5 35
19 Robert Kubica 666.0 61.0 27
20 Jaime Alguersuari 675.5 70.5 31

That was why Alonso was so sure of pole, he's coming in at about lap 3. Button is of course heavier because he lost his first few runs assuring no repeat of the Massa incident. Lewis has a good chance if he KERSes his way past the Red Bulls (and doesn't collect one of them) into turn 1!

By the way, on Massa, did Ferrari actually announce a fuel load, or was it deemed clear that he wouldn't be competing tomorrow. What does this mean for the grid? Does Buemi move up to 10th etc.

By the way, great effort by Buemi, he's gone under the radar there!

And a fond farewell to Nelson Piquet Jnr.. I don't think Alonso's pole would have helped him save his job!

Massa has been withdrawn and as the test/reserve driver didn't qualify his grid slot will be left vacant.

Anyone got any idea why Alonso would declare he was going to get pole and then almost guarantee it by going so light on fuel?
It's not a very credible strategy so you have to wonder why he continues to do this...

Perhaps Hungary is a big target market for Renault? Or he wanted to accelerate the sacking of Nelsinho by proving waht a great car Flabio has given him?

According to the BBC, the fuel adjusted grid is as follows:

1 Sebastian Vettel (lap 20)
2 Mark Webber + 0.242 seconds (lap 19)
3 Nico Rosberg +0.319 (lap 18)
4 Lewis Hamilton + 0.394 (lap 18)
5 Heikki Kovalainen +0.470 (lap 20)
6 Jenson Button +0.562 (lap 25)
7 Alonso +0.592 (lap 13)
8 Kimi Raikkonen +0.987 (lap 18)
9 Kazukia Nakajima +1.120 (lap 20)

So Alonso isn't quite at the back but with stopping so early I don't see how he can hope to be up near the front at the end of the race.

Good job from Nico there, 3rd overall.

I guess he's hoping to breakaway with the RBs, and hope he can slot in 3rd after his pitstop. Button and Barrichello being so far back will help him, but the spoiler will be Lewis, as his KERS will likely see LH in at least 2nd, possibly leading after turn 1. In which case, this could be like those Hungarian GPs of the late 80's and early 90's:- you could be 3 seconds behind the leader in 5th, stop for tyres, but catch up the leading group again after 10 laps. It could, just could be a humdinger of a race.

Ordinarily I would agree but starting on the "dirty side" of the circuit will be a fairly big disadvantage here, especially with all the dust that gets blown onto the track.

I agree though, we could be in for something a bit special tomorrow with the unusual strategies and different performances of the top 8 cars.

Or it could just be rubbish as usual :D

Scurrilous suggestion on 606 that Alonso's pole is linked to some sort of betting scam. I thought the BBC were supposed to moderate what people put up.
