The Future Of F1

yeah i just saw that & that is a shock, but i guess they that now 24 races they have to find room somehow. it would be zandvoort or spa had to go & for alot of fans spa is indispensable. then with argentina you'd expect to replace Mexico, then South Africa, Chicago, South Korea & Thailand on the horizon. theyve got to find room

There's 365 days in a non leap year. Allowing for travel and reducing the number of practice sessions (to save on costs of course) I reckon the maximum number of races we can get to is about 100.

I look forward to it.

surprising news. that either perez is coming back in 2026 or they think they have the fanbase to keep the crowd without a home favourite

i was watching a video & reading a articles on F1 2026. fasinating that Andrew Benson was saying ground effect has been completely ditched. completely flat bottoms like was raced from 1983 - 2021. which shows that it might have been brilliant on paper & initially worked in 2022 but as the cars evolved a disaster

& also i fear for F1, as i think the rules could be a similar failure. as we are basically turning into formula E. where people will be lifting & coasting to save energy. its not a aero or power series but who can save energy the best. & bit like FE alot of meaningless overtakes

I think they were really only completely flat bottomed until 1994 when, in the wake of Imola they had to stick the plank on there. Part of the reason was to raise the ride height but also to disrupt the airflow under the car.

The issue with ground effect may be the lack of skirts. That's why the cars bounced all over the shop a few years ago because they couldn't retain the low pressure area under the car.

Obviously the FIA were never going to reintroduce sliding skirts and fixed skirts had a nasty habit of producing lethal driving characteristics.

ah i mustve misheard or understood andrew benson when he was discussing this

ive heard these stories, of a drivers saying that you had to commit to corner & if skirt failed or didnt drop, you were going to be fired into the nearest wall as you going 30/40mph too quick for the corner

Yeah, that was pretty much the case

Interesting piece from the BBC. We will now have to get used to David Croft going on about whether the driver is using X-Mode or Z-Mode. I hope the FIA will be providing the useless lummox with a nice, easy graphic to help him out.

Can't help thinking they should both be why mode?

The article doesn't explain how often these modes can be used during a race. Will the current within one second rule applied to DRS be retained or will there be a number of uses per system per race or will it be a free for all?

DRS wont exist in 2026, its 14 year run is over after abu dhabi

I wonder how long it will be before the FIA realise that DRS is the reason that there was any overtaking in F1... The active aero being used will simply mean that everyone has it in cornering mode in the corners, and straights modes on the straights...

If the FIA wanted ground effect to be properly effective they would have:
  1. Re-introduced active suspension, to allow cars to have a constant ride height (to ensure that the underbody airflow could be optimised)
  2. Removed front wings.

the worrying part is were the media experts are thinking that with 50/50 allocation it might turn into Formula E too much overtaking almost meaningless

but yes im sure these rules will be like every rule. a decent idea done terribly

Yes, I know but the X mode and Z Mode are replacing RRS. There will be one for faster speed into the corners and one with a faster straight line speed.

If these are supposed to be active all the time then they're pointless because everyone will have them. I can only presume they will be activated in a similar fashion to DRS now.

So my question is, what's the protocol for using these two modes?

They can be used at all times. The “power boost” will be using battery power…

There is a rumour that if the battery pack is not fully charged then on long straights, such as Baku and Mexico City, or circuits where there is extended time on full throttle, like Monza or the Red Bull ring, the cars will run out of power before the lap is over. That will increase overtaking....
