I have a couple of questions about the Valencia test.

I presume the teams using their new 2011 cars were using KERS. McLaren, for example, presumably weren't as they were using a 2010 car. Do we know which teams, if any, were using KERS?

Likewise, were any of the teams using the adjustable rear wing, to see if it works and what difference it makes? I presume the teams can use the adjustable wing whenever they want during the test, until in a race and it's use is then governed by rules. Could any of the time difference be due to using the adjustable wing? (Would the teams using the 2010 cars have the adjustable wing?)

If memory serves (and there is some debate as to the efficacy of my memory) Williams were not using KERs as it malfunctioned on day one. Sauber were using the adjustable rear wing as there were photos of it in different positions. I would be guessing the rest I am afraid...

There is no clear reports on who was using what.Alonso and Rosberg both made press comments regarding the feeling when the wing was activated, so I assume they were using it.Sauber definitely. They have a video on You Tube showing it working.KERS.I don't know about that.Anything else would be guesswork.
The teams using 2010 cars would very likely be using the adjustable wing.According to Aldo Costa the adjustable rear wing has marked effect on the aero balance of the car, so they probably were running it.But I stress that is speculation. Not fact.

OK. Thanks Snowy and Sportsman.

Great discussion here over the past three days - and another thank you to Snowy for the timings information. I think i made the right choice in signing up here (606 refugee here) - great atmosphere: just the right mix of informed debate, humour and genuine passion for the sport- without being 'elitist' or 'cliquey'

Many thanks for the kind words :)

Make sure you tell your friends :D

Cheers Snowy - I get the impression CTA's the kind of place where the kettle's always on and the cookie jar is always well stocked if you know what I mean

There's an Autosport article in the news section- apparently Williams were using KERS today. Maldonado completed 100 laps with it. Very encouraging, I think - he posted some pretty competitive times and the system ran reliably. Fingers crossed for a Team Willy renaissance this year...

It will be interesting this season, to see which teams can make the best use of KERS, balancing the speed gain against the extra weight and whether the driver can get the right 'balance' on his car..

I also see there's an article on Autosport about Jenson. He seems happy so far, with the new tyres. I reckon it could be a good year for Jenson!

Just a small point. There is no weight penalty running KERS in 2011.The minimum weight has been increased by 20kg and the cars balance is now regulated by the rules. The minimum weight is now 640 kg and the weight balance is front not less than 291 kg and rear 342 kg.
