Pastor Maldonado

Courtesy of Planet F1 and Tranquility's post in the Belgian PQR thread here's a place to discuss the Williams' No.2

"Is Pastor Maldonado the scariest man in sport? His post-Spa interview was delivered with a stare that could put a weak-hearted man six foot under from a distance of ten yards and culminated in the remarkable, utterly-terrifying announcement that he regards Lewis Hamilton as "a really good friend."

Jeepers.

Just jeepers.

Fear and pray for his enemies."

Pastor started his racing career in Italy in the Formula Renault and F3000. He would have been Formula Renault 3.5 Champion if he hadn't been disqualified from a win at Misano in 2006. Moving on to GP2 Pastor raced for 4 seasons, eventually taking the title in 2010.

With not insubstantial financial backing from Venezuela's national petroleum company, PDVSA, he took Nico Hulkenberg's seat at Williams for 2011 winning his first point last weekend in Belgium.

On a personal level, he is a self proclaimed Socialist and a personal friend of controversial Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, which probably explains the backing from PDVSA.... Oh, and he's 26 and is still wearing braces on his teeth.

That's fairly obvious. Although Senna also brings some serious money to the table.

The real question is whether Williams will have the balls to drop Maldonado, if it wasn't for his PDVSA link I think he'd be gone by now.

Maldonado's new helmet design he wore in Monza, with "Less trouble, more speed" written on it.

When he keeps out of trouble he doesn't score points and when he is in the points he throws them away so the only value he brings to a team is his money...

If Williams had to pay other teams compensation for the damage he causes they would be out of pocket by now, and I have this horrible feeling that either him or Romain is going to cause another driver a serious injury if they don't start taking care...

Senna may not be setting the grid on fire but he is a safe pair of hands and I believe he has a talent that can be nurtured but Pastor is never going to learn the subtle art of race craft...

Really felt for Maldo today...
He really tried to get it right...
Except for one incident (Hulk?)
IMO he was really tried to keep out of trouble...........
Williams deserved to get some points.....

Maldonado actually made a mess of the first corner. He went in way too deep, allowed Vettel alongside, fought too hard to retain position, and got himself so out of shape that Button was able to sweep by as well. I appreciate the fact that there wasn't any contact however.

I did feel bad that he retired though, handed a couple more points to Alonso.

I could see Pastor turning up at Sauber, complete with his bucket full of PDVSA petro dollars.
