New features, changes and improvements coming in 1.1

As you may know, the software is due to be upgraded soon to version 1.1.

This is a fairly major upgrade which will include a lot of new features.

From an end-user point of view, of most interest on that list will be:

• Ability for members to ignore other members
• Custom user profile fields

There are some features that we will make use of in the back-end, such as permissions, user group promotions, notices, etc.

I'm not sure whether we will use thread prefixes - we have defined sub-forums so prefixes are fairly redundant due to that.

There's also a major change to how media is embedded.
Currently you have to click the media button and paste in the URL if you want to embed it.
In future it will be possible to automatically embed directly from the post, you can see it in action here in the second video: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/bb-code-media-improvements-in-xenforo-1-1.19545/

I'm not sure whether I want to implement that or not as it removes the ability to just post a URL.

I'm hoping you can reverse the ignore feature once you've hit it just in case its done in a rage of frustration. Also because it might mean I end up talking to myself if I don't behave

You can indeed

It's the same principle as following/unfollowing someone.



There is also the option to view any ignored posts by clicking a link at the bottom of each page.

I think the current system is easy enough. If someone wanted to post a Multi-Part series of videos it might be nice to be able to post just the URL after embedding the first video.

But then I'm quite familiar with the "Media" button.

Thanks Keke, that was my reasoning too.

At least this way members have the option of embedding or posting the link.

Although I can understand why those who are less familiar with posting may prefer the automatic embed feature.

Clicking on the permalink for a post (the #number in the bottom right corner) will now result in this overlay:

So it will be possible to submit individual posts to Twitter, Facebook, etc., instead of just whole threads, which is all is possible now using the buttons at the bottom of the page.

I'm not sure whether we can really use them as we have separate sub forums for everything.
Perhaps we could have one called "Poll" which could be applied to any threads with a poll?

Possibly one called "Overtaking" to allow easy filtering of the overtaking threads in the statistics forum?

Anyone else got any other suggestions?
