NASCAR does F1

Patrick nearly tested a Honda in 2008 (they pulled out of the entire sport just to stop her.) which is probably as much contribution as Wolff has made.

For Haas to get Ceccto they'd have to accept funding from the Venezuelan government which might not mix too well with the American dream.

Danica was in line for a test as it would help appeal to the US market but I always felt Honda's preferred choice was Bruno Senna if he did impress and if it was not then at least a Brazilian as Di Grassi was given a test at the same time and it would have probably retired Rubens

Now Bernie back in 2012 when grand prix returned to the US said "to have someone like Danica Patrick in F1 would be a perfect advert."[71]

If Haas enters a team into F1 he may not want American drivers, at least not initially. He may want American engineers and technicians, but have two F1 drivers, until such time as they have found their feet.

Interesting. That gives the project a bit more credability because you would imagine that to get Ferrari engines, Ferrari would want assurances that the project can be paid for and will go ahead.

Technical partnerships with Ferrari are indeed Haas' best chance. They've still got plenty of time to get everything else sorted as well. Much more promising than some other projects on this side of the pond. USF1 did build a hell of an expensive bathtub though!
