Current Lewis Hamilton

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

Nothing surprising, Buemi got a penalty for a similar incident even though Heidfeld was way back.

Just there way of being consistent I assume.

Ed Straw blows hot and cold over LH all the time ...still, what should we expect from a comic? Gave up on Autosport as a) I resent paying three quid on something that's as quick to read as The Sun and just about as informative and b) doesn't tell me anything I can't find out on the 'net or by talking to you guys on Clip.

We all know of the double standards toward Lewis that exists at every level of the game

From the press to F1 fans

It's an easy target because there is a mass of people out there who will lap up anything negative about Lewis and his attitude, approach, fans, father, girlfriend

All those terrified by his stellar debut in 2007 now bathe in schadenfreude

For me, the more prejudice and unfairness he receives the more his stature and my respect and support grow

It's obvious why Lewis fans appear to be more loyal (FANatical) than others, they have to be in the first place to see through the system

The stewards did not call it a racing incident because they did not investigate. This is a very important distinction. For them to deem something a racing incident, they need to have investigated it and scrutized available data to satisfy themselves that neither driver did anything out of line. The official line was that "no further investigation was required." We now know that they took this decision because in their eyes 'Hamilton took himself out'

It's in this week's Autosport. Now before anyone says it's 'Autosport', I don't see why they'll make these allegations without foundation and it almost certainly looked like a drip feed from the stewards' room.

"Hamilton escaped any further action for triggering his race ending crash by moving over on Kamui Kobayashi because the Sauber driver escaped without damage".

"FIA stewards briefly looked into the incident but Autosport understands that they believed no action was necessary because the McLaren driver was the only one to suffer from his own mistake"

How does that criterion work; what if the hypothetical scenario played out that both cars survived, both suffered damage but Kobiyashi still finishes equal or better?

It can go so far to say that Kobiyashi actually benefited from the incident, he already had a broken front wing, this forced him to pit, and the safety car came out, so he got more gains than actual loss. I don't know if I always agree with the criteria used to assess "whether a driver is punishable", either he is or he isn't and the criteria should have already been set in stone.

Cheers!

Wow. So the stewards were being kind to Hamilton then after deciding within minutes that it was definitely his fault. Genius.

Kobayashi had every right to put his car there but I’d say he was struggling to slow his car down into the corner and that’s why he didn’t even make the turn despite heavy contact with Hamilton. Brundle commented on how his car was under-steering badly the corner before the incident because of front wing damage and this is why Hamilton so easily cruised past him in the first place. Post race data suggests the Saubers were the fastest in a straight line so no surprise that in addition to the tow, he was able to keep up with Hamilton.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter who was to blame. I expect any incident that triggers the deployment of the Safety Car to be FULLY investigated. This means scrutinizing every available data and NOT taking cursory looks at camera screens and quickly establishing blame. I guess you now see where I’m going with this. Nigel should not be there and I’m struggling to see how he justified his presence as the driver’s representative.

He seems to particularly enjoy doing it, has he done it the most times (3) for one driver? Maybe they could get Lauda to do it for Monza

At least Lewis would be able to drive safe in the knowledge that he would face a drive through or position drop at some stage if not DQ

It was a racing incident, simple as that. Id say it was Hamiltons fault as he moved to the left into him but it was simply a mistake and a race incident. No conspiracy theories about Mansell or anything, the correct decision was made.
