Interesting F1 photos from the past

Only 'interesting' because of the story behind it and how it eventually panned out. Prizes to all who know what it is. Possibly.

They're pedals in the nose of an old F1 car, aren't they? Don't know the story behind these particular pedals though...

From Wiki MP4-12
During the season, F1 Racing photographer Darren Heath noticed that the rear brakes of the McLarens were glowing red in an acceleration zone of the track. The magazine discovered through photos of the inside of the cockpit, that McLaren had installed a second brake pedal, selectable by the driver to act on one of the rear wheels. This allowed the driver to eliminate understeer and reduce wheelspin when exiting slow corners, dubbed "brake steer". Ferrari's protestations to the FIA led to the system being banned the following season at the 1998 Brazilian Grand Prix.[1]

Wasn;t it Mclaren's extra brake pedel thingy?

Indeed it is :) I was reading a little about banned innovations in F1 and was reminded of 'thirdpedalgate'. Ron Dennis said the system only cost £22,000 per car to develop and build and that rivals (i.e. Ferrari) only complained as they couldn't figure out how to do it themselves, as with using Beryllium in engines and of course the Michelin tyres saga.

In the days when not everything on an F1 car was designed in a wind tunnel and CFD was something NASA used Ferrari tried this bizarre rear wing arrangement. It got Gilles disqualified from the Long Beach GP...
