Fernando Alonso & Ferrari

Thus the next best existing option could be the Merc engined Willimas next year.....partnering Massa who he recently described as the best teammate he's had.....???? Only thinking out loud...
Not sure if that would be an improvement, looking at the standings: Massa has 30 points, Alonso 79. That's about the same difference they usually had at Ferrari.

I agree with that Todt was politically good at Ferrari in making sure the team containing Schumacher- Brawn- Byrne- Stepney was protected from the politics and focused on racing

Ironically it was Luca who hired Todt

Its no coincidence that since they all left Ferrari have not been the same and it started with Luca enforcing Schumacher to give up No 1 role when he signed Raikkonen and it seems to also trigger Ross Brawn leaving the team as well

One of the consequences of the Schumacher success era was nobody told Ferrari their wind tunnel was out of date because they relied on endless testing and being able to use Fiorano at their will within their budget.

Alonso could have won the title twice for Ferrari - he did mess up in 2010 for his infamous grass pass on Kubica at Silverstone and 2012 - he simply hit a bad run of form just as Vettel hit his purple patch

It is hard to say if Schumacher would have done any better in those situations but certainly Alonso 2 titles undervalues just how good he really is

I guess in 2010 his jumpstart in China, his crash during the free practice in Monaco, his crash in Belgium and the strategy error in Abu Dhabi didn't really help too. It seems he was pretty crappy back then. ;)

oh yes his jumpstart cost him at least a few points but his Monaco smash meant he was at the back of the grid instead of pole position

Yes, he was flying in the free practices, so it was a very costly mistake. Thanks to the safety cars and the funny tyre rules he moved up to 6th place, so at least he got 8 points.

If you watched the free practice sessions at that Monaco race you would see the problems with the Ferrari. Repeating the driver's actions did not mean repeating what the car did.

2010 season was kind of strange that all four top drivers made costly mistakes. Much like Hamilton/Massa duo in 2008. It's easy to say that all of trio Vettel/Alonso/Hamilton drove better in 2012 than they did in 2010.
