after sainz won british GP, i saw a stat about the top 5 & i was interested in the fact that when i researched further the 15 most expierenced drivers with the most races before 1st win they are relatively from what you call the modern era the top 8 are all from last 20 years, 12 of the last 15 are from last 25 years. is there a reason why people are winning 1st grand prix further into their career than they did in the 70's & 80's. is it
  • more strength in depth in the grid & the grid is more competitive than it was, as more drivers are capable of winning a race given the correct equipment. midfield drivers of last 20 years are better than midfield drivers of Brundle, De Cesaris, Warwick who had 150-200 races
  • the grid is less competitive & there are less race winning seats as there used to be, so drivers have to wait longer
  • Is that there are more races in a season so 100 races that would normally 7 seasons now only takes 5 seasons

(drivers in bold are the drivers that held the record for most starts without a win)
