Football All things Football

We do have a few injuries but not so that it should make too much difference, we just lack quality and the quality we do have lacks consistency. Pompey were well worth their win, we were awful.

tomorrow's starts a very tough run of fixtures & i think if we are still top 2 by 3rd round of fa cup (which im fuming about the scheduling) we've done alot of the hard work towards promotion

you have to say that all home nations have to be pretty confident of making the playoffs. for 2026 world cup
  • England should breeze through the group with 7 wins at least. with serbia away the only tricky game
  • Northern Ireland with realistically head to head with slovakia.
  • Scotland head to head with greece.
  • Republic of Ireland head to head with Hungary
  • Wales should get the points they need v North Macedonia Kazakhstan & Liechtenstein

Oooh lovely. Another round of uncompetitive matches that give England fans a false impression of the quality of our side.

:(

I so badly want to see a two tier qualifying competition that makes it more difficult but more competitive to qualify.

bùt thats why i like the nations league & it is useful but only in league A as it can only make us better.

i think that was part of the problem with golden generation. they werent used to playing in a game with equally talented opposition you look at 2004 we lost to portugal & then didnt play another major nation in competitive match until we lost to Portugal at the next major tournament. we couldnt use that expierence because only 6 remained from 2004 & between losing to Portugal in 2006 - germany 2010. the only tests we got were 3 games v Russia & Croatia

thats the problem with being top seeds we are always playing 2nd class opposition. being in Group A would be great for this team. to have to play Germany & Dutch in 1 group or, Italy France & Belgium in the other home & away. where they are under pressure to get a result otherwise face embarrassment of relegation

I can believe what's happening at City. They've just stopped playing. You would have never guessed that losing Rodri would have such an impact.

Rodri has never been so highly rated. for me the only shock is it hasnt happened sooner. man city where at an unsustainable high level of quality. you look at how poor liverpool were for 6 months the season after they were challenging on 4 fronts in may. & it was only 6th time in english football history that a english team had won 3 in a row. interestingly the season after liverpool 84/85 manager left. Fergie came 3rd in 01/02, & in 09/10 only won the league cup

so there shouldve been this drop off after they won the treble & there 3rd title. it might be the old boxing adage. theyve become old overnight. & Guardiola will have to rebuild. which is why i rate sir alex so highly great british manager there's ever been. because so many hugely talented managers have won titles & trophies. but very few have won it again. after rebuilding a new team. & only sir alex i can think of has won the champions league rebuilt & won champions league again
