Football All things Football

Only just.

If they hadn't tried putting 11 men behind the ball for the last 20 minutes we'd have lost that. Some of them we're defending so deeply they were actually on Leppings Lane.

how quick things change. from a threadbare squad. to having the option of brewster, o'hare, peck, JRS & Brooks on the bench. wow

i enjoyed that nobody realised the FA Cup game had finished on the concourse. they ended up with garden rescue on đŸ¤£

playing very well FB pompey arguably you should be leading. missed so many great chances.

since souttars injury & we've went back to Robinson / anel CB partnership utd have look so much more exposed defensively. 1 of them got to be dropped

for the neutrals it was probably a very entertaining game. how we won that i don't know. Portsmouth who were fantastic FB shouldve been out of sight. you couldve had 5 or 6 easily

We desperately need to find defensive organisation. since souttars injury & we've went back to Robinson / anel CB partnership we look so much more exposed defensively. 1 of them got to be dropped. or we go to a 3. as we cant be that wide open v Middlesborough. we will get thrashed. it was like kevin keegan trying to win 5-4

cider_and_toast just seen youve sneaked your way into the play offs. by taking the lead v cardiff.

although this is wide open & is highly likely the lowest point total ever needed to make the playoffs. in championship play off history. im sure only once has a team made the playoffs under 70pts & it looks like 5th/6th will be under 70.

This is the poorest Championship season in a long time and we've timed it perfectly to have one of the poorest teams.

The bloke we spent a couple of million on in the summer who was supposed to be out star striker and fill a gap we've long needed, was sent packing back to Austria in the January window.

We are awful.

If we, by some miracle, were to make it into the Premier League at the end of this season I think we would break every record going for being awful.

i know what you mean. i think weirdly i think both are true. because i think the top 4 might be the strongest in any of our promotion campaigns maybe only 2006 could rival it. all 4 could be above 90pts

but the standard does drop off hugely. 5th & below. as i saying for only 3rd time it looks like under 70pts will be enough. 67pts is a success when historically 74pts is needed

Actually it's not as far apart as you think at the top of the championship.

This time last year, after 33 games Leicester were on 78 while second place Leeds were on 69.

This year you are on 70 while second place Leeds are on 69.

Meanwhile the 4th placed team last year was on 67 points, 12 points ahead of 5th while this year the 4th placed team is on 62, points. 11 points ahead of 5th.

So in many respects this seasons top half of the championship is weaker than last year's.

Bristol City are 2 points better off than we were at the same point last year but 4 places higher.

its a fasinating FA cup because with the expection of preston. everyone still in. they will think they will never get a better opportunity to make the final or win the fa cup.

how does man utd work. because i didn't think it was possible to spend over 2 billion since sir alex left. so badly, in 11 years your talking about arguably 3 successes. Fernandes, Maguire & Mata., (they overpaid for maguire) theyve had more success from the youth team.

what is their recruitment strategy, do they have 1, who is shortlisting & recommending these players. i know Liverpool under klopp & think sheffield united are the same, have a committee. where the chairman, manager, chief scout etc will have a meeting. wilder / klopp will either talk about specific players or more vague qualities in a player

do they have scouts or are they signing players on past performances & hoping they refind their old form. if they have scouts they need to sack them. or if they dont they need to hire some. its absolute mess. at the moment they are like sheff utd in 2016/17. they are stuck with Amorim. because who in their right mind is going to manage man utd after ruining the reputations of 4 quality managers in less than a decade

More to the point, how does FFP work, with relation to Manchester United. They have demonstrably lost around £300million over rolling three seasons, but have escaped any sanction.

From a sporting point of view, you have to hope that FFP gets challenged on a legal basis, and the accounts of some of the big six clubs get revealed to explain how Everton can get a huge points reduction for making a far smaller loss than Manchester United…
