Grand Prix 2013 United States Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

So we head back to Texas for the second time since its inception. Can we hope that the exceptional racing last year will induce Bernie to leave it on the calendar for a couple more years at least? That will probably be down to this year’s result and his ability to run things from a jail cell! Al Capone managed it though!

Over 117 thousand peeps rocked up to watch the inaugural GP. If that level of interest is maintained this year, the economics could forestall any negative plans that BE might have for this track.

For a Tilke track, it was received well by most drivers and fans alike. It was something new and unknown and it certainly tested the drivers and the fans’ expectations. 2012 was a ‘good’ race.

However, in 2012 we weren’t quite sure that RBR had taken both the WCC and the WDC – this year there is no such uncertainty.

We are now looking at a race that will involve the drivers who suddenly come to life at contract time; those who have a point to prove; those who are retiring or in limbo. Those who haven’t been paid seem to have their own agenda – the grid maybe a tad smaller, if only by one.

We saw elements of this in Abu Dhabi with Massa, Perez and Gutierrez pulling their respective fingers out. Kimi driving with his eyes shut, even Webber was hoping for a better-than-usual result. Whilst Kimi gave up the will to live, Grosjean thought “sod it, I’m here to race”.

Vettel, of course, will prove a point and, maybe, add to his impressive tally of records. Of course, he didn’t win in 2012, so that will probably be his goal in Austin.

For some drivers, there is all to play for. For others, they are there to fulfil their contract. We, the fans, have no influence here!

But how will it be for the disillusioned fan and there seem to be many? Those who have lost faith in F1 in general. It would be great to believe that Austin will once again rekindle a passion for racing – it was an eye opener last year and, hopefully, again this year.

I’m still an optimist and hope to see some stunning racing on a better-than-average track. As ever it will be down to the drivers and their desire to win.

I think if Webber is in second and has a good buffer over the third place man. I predict that if Vettel is out in front RB may tell him to let Webber through.

Actually nah that'll never happen >:(.

Would Webber really want him too? How insulting to be handed a win by a rival because he's so much better than you he can afford to do if.

If I were Seb I'd slow down and let him past with one lap to go like I was letting him win then retake him at the next DRS zone.

Honestly, a bad decision. No experience in the car because of the ludicrous testing rules. Its gonna be like Grosjean in 2009 all over again.

I guess there aren't any other choices.

He has driven the car twice this year at both tests and been part of the team every weekend so slightly better than Grosjean in 09 but I agree its not the best situation but with the current testing rules what more can they do?

As shown with D'ambrosio, Chandhock, Da La Rosa etc even if you chuck in a driver with previous F1 experience its no guarentee they'll be on the pace. If you use Fisichella as an example in 09 then even nicking someone elses driver is still no guarentee.

The only thing this has going for it is this is Valsecchi's one and only chance and he knows it. Maybe adrenaline alone will see him through. Worked for Kobi!

Evening races to end the season. :)

Apparently not many people have received their tickets yet :bawl::bawl::bawl:

I ordered my tickets on March 21'st, was told to expect them via FEDEX by the first to middle of October. I'm leaving in 18 hours for Austin and still do not have my tickets. This is my first time going to a race in person and although i'm still excited this ticket mess, combined with Raikkonen's absence has really dampened the mood for me.

I ordered my tickets through ticketmaster. Circuit of the Americas appears to have really dropped the ball. The rumor is they couldn't pay the printer in time for the tickets. Either way, they made no attempt to notify customers that the tickets were going out late. I had to call to be told that they were not shipping on time. They have been good in that they will make every effort to provide will call for my tickets once i'm down in Austin. In fact I've heard they are willing to deliver tickets to hotels if need be.
